    After 30 minutes or so, Gonçalo Tocha's anthropological proposition slides into dubiousness.

    The film's leisurely pace seems to capture the rhythms of island life. Though often random in its organization - Mr. Tocha slides from contemplative seascapes and misty meadows to a slaughterhouse and the Corvo landfill - this portrait is still much more than a snapshot.

    As a tone poem, Tocha's documentary can be mesmerizing. As a memento mori, It's the Earth feels a little lost in space.
