There is no denying Danny Hoch's talent. A monologist in the tradition of Eric Bogosian, Hoch assembles a cast of urban types and explores their dysfunctions and angst with a winning combination of sympathy, ironic point and dead-on mimicry.
Belongs to the small rank of hip-hop films that actually have something to say -- and that say it with both style and intellectual bite.
A wild, rapid-fire collage that's as fiercely funny, original and provocative as anything I've seen on a screen in a good long while.
Hoch's considerable skill speaks to an extraordinary empathy and a willingness to understand where even the toughest customer is coming from.
Ultimately, it's too much information coming too fast.
While some of this white guy's humor is juvenile and in questionable taste, Hoch, for the most part, is able to pull it off and supply a frequent number of laughs.
By and large Mr. Hoch's portrayals are as harsh and authentic as a police photograph, but an occasional touch of sentimentality creeps in.
