  1. Ferrell's ideally suited to man-boy characters, and that's what Phil Weston is in "Kicking."

An immensely likable, funny comedy that finds a novel approach to that familiar combo of kids and sports.
  3. It's Ferrell who is the vehicle, a mow-you-down comic engine, and everyone else is just along for the ride in this marginally effective, starkly unoriginal family comedy.
  4. 50
A sweet, inoffensive, achingly laughless comedy.
  5. It's not brilliant by any means, but bright enough to light up an overly familiar feel-good story.
  6. This is little more than a big-budget sitcom, with a guest appearance by Mike Ditka, who plays an unfunny version of himself as Phil's assistant coach.
  7. 20
If its made-for-TV sensibility explains its chaotically blobby shooting style, it doesn't clarify a plot so painfully padded that it looks for laughs in strange digressive asides regarding bratwurst and coffee.

I think this movie is so great because Francesco Liotti is in it. I could die for him. He is the best actor in the entire movie.

Kicking and Screaming reaches success in all ages.
This is probably one of the few movies that can be laughed at by both adults and kids.

This is probably one of the few movies that can be laughed at by both adults and kids. Will Ferrel pushes the envelope just far enough to stay appropriate but make his presence known.
