ANNETTEG.Jun 2, 20053Disappointing and boring.

JamesD.Jun 4, 200510Arnaud Desplechin is a very special director who shows a lot of respect for his audience. Worth even a second viewing and maybe a third, to soak all of this movie in.

TimothyD.Jan 28, 20064A major disappointment -- fatally overlong and grossly melodramatic. I give it a 4 instead of a 1 because of the work of the actorrs, who are this film's saving grace.

JeffHJun 2, 20051Boring, awful, tedious, pointless, the critics who liked it are either lying or saw a different film.

JosephC.Jun 6, 20052Perhaps my "art film" brain muscle has atrophied, but I just did not get this. About half way through it stopped making sense and I stopped caring. Then it ends with about ten minutes of pure blather.

CharlesM.JrDec 14, 20055I purchased this move based on the high score from critics. Mistake! Halfway into this film, it became unwatchable. I wanted to enjoy it but came away feeling let down. There were moments of good drama and some funny scenes but overall it seemed to lack a cohesive storyline and became a disjointed movie. Definitely not on par with some good French cinema.

ChetC.May 25, 20054The subtitles are in white and very difficult to read in many scenes. The film was very 'French' but that alone doesn't make it a fine film.

-
CameronM.May 28, 20054Tedious, some good acting, story uninvolving, no movement towards a point or reason. All in all, un depense du temps.

marleneaJun 28, 20053The beginning to the middle was tolerable, at times even interesting but towards the end became quite torturous and I was relieved when it was over, not sure what the whole mess was about, it felt very disjointed.

-
MaryCAug 24, 20051A precious few moments of real emotion, but mostly an overwrought, rambling mess of inconsistent characters with incomprehensible motivations that was neither touching nor funny. As to the reviewers--I think the emperor has no clothes.

Arnaud Desplechin's best movie to date.
-
70This movie, however incomplete and frustrating, is also fully alive and extraordinarily intelligent.
-
80This enjoyable French pic welds together drama, melodrama and comedy.
