Besides being a springboard for Jet Li's Hollywood career (for good or ill, depending on your view), this film is just a forgettable, uneventful money-grab. The cuts between Gibson and his bad-wig-wearing stunt-double are some of the most unconvincing I've ever seen in a big-budget picture. But that stands as a great analogy for the entire film... slap shod, sloppy and unconvincing malarkey.

It was good but far too much like the other films and really had no originality to it what so ever. Still good though and I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Please, Warner Brothers, let's not have any more of this claptrap, and if you must make #5, knock off the Joe Pesci character while the credits are rolling. He is absolutely horrible.

First of all, this film wasnt made to please Hollywood, it was made to give closure to a great movie franchise. It is like a family reunion that takes us back to the old days when movies didnt have to have computer technlogy to generate fans an followers. The reason this film is different from the first 3, is because it depicts how Riggs and Murtaugh cope with their job and lives as older people. I believe this film was made for the fans of action movies from the 80's. They dont make movies like these anymore, and they deserve respect where respect is due.… Expand

If you strolled into the cinema to watch this movie, having never seen nor even heard of the first three LW's, but just possessing a love of buddy-cop-action films, I would confidently predict that you would enjoy yourself, without exactly having the time of your life! In other words, as a stand alone film, LW4 is good. For the genre, it's solid, competent fare. It has a bright, witty script, colourful characters, contemporary (though uninspiring) plot, and the required number of action/shoot-'em-up scenes. All pretty much standard. Unfortunately though most of us can't escape the fact that it is the fourth installment in a series that should have stopped after two (preferably 1 and 3 should remain - and chuck out the tacky 2nd). As good as some of the elements in LW4 are, it's little more than a tired rerun, a one-for-the-road type film for the lead cast, and the performances feel as such. It's just too leaden for its own good. I pray they don't go for a 5th. How many '5' movies are better than average - and how many can you clearly remember seeing and liking? Enough already!… Expand

Not even Pesci & Russo can save this rip-off of its own squalid but action-packed predecessors. Surely Gibson in his now stock avenging-angel role will not wring more than a couple more billion dollars out of playing such a character.
