GilbertMulroneycakes:BehindTheMusicDec 2, 20029Too repulsive to sit through....iiiis the point. Well done. It does require you to open your mind a little, though; to try and see Big John in the context of a human being. It's hard to watch. But it's worth it.

CharilieF.Jun 8, 200210Jeff V and Khanh N are just fucking stupid. There is nothing in this film that is worth freaking out about, content-wise. It's unbelievable. Powerful and great.

EthanP.Jul 29, 20024A pair of compelling characters amongst plenty of not-compelling characters amongst an even less compelling story. In making this movie "real" and "restrained," Mr. Director forgot to make it "interesting" and "effective." I'm more affected by the acclaim this movie received than the movie itself.

KhanhN.Jan 2, 20023Some movies should not be made! Making a child molester a protagonist is just repulsive to sit through.

MichaelM.Mar 10, 20028I saw this movie on a whim one night. I left disturbed. It was a good movie. While I would agree that placing a child-molester in the role of protagonist is unusual, I nonetheless felt somewhat sympathetic for him. However, I was even more sympathetic for those he took advantage of who were spurred to such drastic measures at the end.

80L.I.E. has embraced tragedy, folly, perversity and outrageous dark humor. Like "Happiness" and "American Beauty," it takes an unflinching look at the darker aspects of life in American suburbia.
-
50Paints a sincere and serious portrait of the seductiveness of evil and the self-destructive nature of depravity.
-
67A paradox, balancing the contradictions and ambiguities of its characters and setting with a careful hand that rarely falters, even though the film seems dramatically thin at times.
