  1. In some ways the film is reminiscent of "It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World" with the theme of greed and a gaggle of people all after a piece of the pot, but Lottery Ticket pays off on the laughs with a strong message about using sudden riches responsibly and the importance of giving back to the community.

The theme of this formulaic but vibrant ensemble comedy could best be described as a paraphrase of Biggie's well-worn credo: Mo' money, mo' problems-but mo' money, yeah, definitely.
  3. It's easy to see the potential in Lottery Ticket, which boasts an entertaining idea and a game cast. But you only win big if every number hits.
  4. Lottery Ticket is ultimately no "Friday," but that 15-year-old film's communal vibe is clearly the model Lottery Ticket is chasing.

There are some amusing looks at the elation - and panic - that come with winning big, from the praise-Jesus swooning of Kevin's grandma (underutilized Loretta Devine).

    Lottery Ticket is no prize.
  7. Lottery Ticket is likable, and that goes a long way.

Whatever laughter Lottery Ticket earns is through familiarity with these exaggerated characters, and actors going the extra mile to make viewers believe they haven't seen this material before.
  9. It's hard to love and hard to hate.
  10. Entertaining, if highly predictable, escapist ensemble comedy.
  11. There are a couple of good performances and a few funny bits, but mostly the film just bounces back and forth until coming to a flat, trite close.

The script is never nearly as clever as the premise ought to allow, and the madcap fun is far too frequently derailed by tonal inconsistencies.

There is a message in here somewhere but the audience just struggles to find it underneath all the cliche script and tiresome stereotypes. TheThere is a message in here somewhere but the audience just struggles to find it underneath all the cliche script and tiresome stereotypes. The idea that someone in the projects is going to win a ticket and not get killed for it is impeccable. Either way, Lottery Ticket does show that money won't make you happy if the people around you aren't. I guess that's the message. But with very little to go on, Lottery Ticket find itself in the middle of nowhere at the end of the film. Full Review »

Sometimes the humor is a bit corny but overall this is yet another feelgood movie for the Sunday afternoon. Although, it's quite predictable but nice.
