This movie was interesting, exciting intriguing, and touching. I went into it with no expectations and I was surprised how much it moved me in it's wacky, unconventional way.

People who are giving this movie negative reviews seems to be doing so because they wanted the movie to be something that it was never intended to be. I think it is unfair of reviewers to criticize this movie for not being a fairy tale romance. Do these characters persistently behave in a destructive and irritating manner? Sure they do, and that is precisely why I liked the movie so much. There is nothing more boring than watching nice people behave nicely. This movie does ask the viewer to buy into its premise, but it rewards the viewer with interesting characters, impressive cinematography, and some genuinely funny scenes. Expand

Kinetic, captivating film that unfortunately doesn't follow through in its promise. The frustrating ending discounts any sympathy for the film's characters.

Whether one grows up to be a tyrant or a cream puff, this is a masterpiece with a grotesquely beautiful ending. The director created something more than the human condition could ever hope to imagine - Immortality in a game of dare. I dare you to see it.

Guillaume Canet and Marion Cotillard are potentially winning romantic comedy leads--and the young actors who play them as children are as adorable as child actors get. Writer-director Yann Samuell's use of whimsical imagery is reminiscent of Amelie but more effective because it's more focused and less wall-to-wall. I enjoyed the variety of uses he put to that great old standard La vie en rose. Nobody fills out a red dress like Cotillard. And that, folks, is about all the praise I can muster up for a remarkably unlikable, nasty piece of work that made me wish that I had my very own brightly colored tin box--to throw repeatedly at the screen. As obsessive, would-be lovers who sublimate their affection for one another in a series of increasingly loathsome dares and practical jokes, Canet and Cotillard are forced to play characters so unhinged that they make the Glenn Close of Fatal Attraction (both pre- AND post-bunny boiling) look like the Glenn Close of The Natural by comparison. The only rooting interest I had after awhile was for them BOTH to go to hell (together or separately, it didn't matter) sooner rather than later, but the film's real ugliness lies in how many genuinely innocent people are trapped in our "heroes' " sick little games: his father, her sister, his fiancee, the kids on the school bus... space really does prevent me from listing all (or even most) of them! Again, from a pure filmmaking standpoint, Samuell's cotton-candy images are generally effective, but the one that stood out for me the most was one of the most ordinary: Cotillard s-c-r-a-p-i-n-g her fingernails across a blackboard. Not since Will Ferrell's streak in Old School has a single image so aptly and accurately encapsulated the movie that contains it. Expand

Who says that 50 million Frenchmen can't be wrong? This huge hit in its native country should come with subtitles not only for language, but for taste. The cotton-candy photography and set design are really eye-popping and original, but this quasi-romantic comedy/drama about two young people whose lives are defined by an escalating series of dares and counter-dares is remarkably creepy and unpleasant. While the characters are children, dealing with poverty (her) and a dying mother (him), you can almost understand the weird way in which they reach out to one another. As they become adults, though, the behavior just becomes sociopathic and destructive, both to themselves and to nearly everyone around them. No, not every movie has to have loveable characters doing heroic deeds; but, if you're going to hang an entire movie on a disagreeable pair of lunatics like these, you need to have a far better script than this one going for you. This is fresh and stylish and makes me laugh and yearn and shout. No, no you fools, you were made for each other! I go for the second ending everytime.

I found myself drawn in. A well-constructed journey, with delicious visuals. The story was gripping, not predictable like the trash they do in Hollywood and I found myself pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Best french movie of all time. If you haven't see it, you've better watch it. it's the dark version of ''One day'' with Anne Hathaway. There is complicity and chemistry between the two actors.

Despite the sterling performances by the two main actors, the movie tends to lose pace in the second half and needs more secondary characters. But for a first time in the director's chair, Samuell shows a deftness of touch that bodes well for the future.

The film's attempts at meaning do it in. The longer it goes on and the darker it grows, the further it drifts from any kind of human experience, outside of its protagonists' particular flavor of madness.

If you like romantic movies but find Hollywood's increasingly sterile formulas to be a poisonous bore, Love Me if You Dare offers an antidote.
