  1. The movie is very small in scale, but the performances are appealing and Fernandez's screenplay casts an interesting light on the main characters' self-images as Latina women.
  2. Consistently entertaining and offers some sharp observations of the Latino experience.

With wonderful music, interesting characters, and lots of laughter, this picture feels much bigger than it really is.
  4. There are so many small, satisfying moments when the women are allowed to be real that it's a jolt each time they become superficial symbols.

    Breezy and eminently watchable.

Not for me, and in spite of that, I found it really funny, smart and sweet. I enjoyed it.
  7. An occasionally charming, sometimes amateurish film .

Chock-full of feisty-frank go-girl sextalk speculating on white guys' underplayable size.

The lawyer is marvelously played by Evelina Fernandez, who wrote the screenplay based on her play.

There are surprising grace notes in all the performances, and familiar, friendly faces pop up in supporting roles.
  11. Easy to like and difficult to admire.

Comes off as nothing more than a TV soap opera, with overwrought acting, simplistic dialogue and a generic plot.

A stiff, clumsy, amateurish mess, one of those ethnically righteous movies likely to be endured exclusively by its story's demographic.
  14. It is a traffic jam of broken hearts, fluxing racial identities and deplorable outfits that has everything but a salsa overhaul of "I Will Survive."
