Dishes up some very corny jokes, but the images have a brighter-than-life vivacity.
Madagascar isn't deep and would have no business being deep. But that it keeps one foot in reality is enough to keep us guessing.

My favorite animated film ever. Madagascar offers an original story that combines humor and feelings, a story of friendship and personal doubts. The underlying message is to push ourselves to improve, despite we may feel wrong, to be able to overcome our negative sides, no matter how difficult it is, to reveal the best version of ourselves. A masterpiece of animation.

The tenor can be shrill, but there's no time to get bored. And on top of that, most of the gags actually work.
By and large it's formulaic and dull.
Less like "Shrek," meaning hilarious and heartfelt, and more like "Shark Tale," meaning manic and exhausting, Madagascar will keep kids distracted without transporting them to wonderland.
The animation is deft but the screenplay is stilted, the voice-performances are unimaginative, and the whole project is surprisingly clumsy in its efforts to please young and old alike. A major disappointment.

An iconic movie that started a huge franchise, despite the nostalgia the movie starts strong but it gets weaker as it goes on. And by the end you just want it to wrap up. There are also some really weird parts which I did not remember...

2005's "Madagascar" sports likeable, well casted characters and a kid-appealing plot and atmosphere that is all-around memorable and fun. With that said, my feelings are telling me that this film could have done much better by not having the predictable plot focus too much on the down-and-out drama moments. Also, the writers seem to know how to write good jokes, but I found more than half of them didn't hit the bullseye, or worse, they're too 'in' which becomes groan worthy to watch/listen. I know there's some serious potential here because the CG animation here is fluid, fast, and expressive- allowing for the more cartoony, left-field ideas/jokes to shine as they should. If the sequel films can capitalize on the stronger aspects of this first film, then we will have a very good series on our hands. As is though, "Madagascar" is okay.

There is nothing good about this movie except its impact to children, which is the reason I gave a 2, not a 0, and for its memorable anthem, that is I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT, which for me is super horrendous and corny...............
