I'd just like to comment on the post by vince h.... why would you be expecting this movie to be original at all? of course it was going to suck, that was obvious to anyone. so why did you go see it? i'm pretty sure that it was just so you could come on metacritic and give it a 1 because you're a geek. i know you think you're clever and everything (like a lot of people on this site), but give it a rest. also, i must say that i did not see the movie, therefore it is unfair for me to give it a rating, but i wanted to comment on that idiot. A couple of mildly amusing moments in no way justifies the time expenditure. An embarrassment for Jones.

I have been racking my brain for hours, yet I still cannot think of anything to recommend about this movie whatsoever. I walked into the theater not expecting much, and received even less so. The framework of the story is so overused and cliched (Some Like it Hot, Connie & Carla, every other movie ever made!) that it was hard for me to even get past that, but somehow this movie manages to take a sophomoric idea for a made-for-TBS movie and make it even more cliched. There is not one original, new, fresh, or funny idea in this movie's head. This movie retreads over so much slim pickings that I wasn't surprised the writers haven't been sued yet by the MPAA for copyright infringement. Essentially you'll sit in the audience, mildly diverted, waiting for the horror to be over. Tied with Alone in the Dark as the worst movie I've seen this year. Expand

You get what you expect here. There were definitely some funny moments. This type of character is definitely made with Tommy Lee Jones in mind.

Light-hearted, fun comedy that makes no pretense at being deep. Decent action sequences as well.

"Man of the House" cheats to get laughs. A Texas Ranger like Roland (Tommy Lee Jones), more likely would merely chaperone from the sidelines at the skating rink, rather than participate. But he has to shakily maintain his balance until he inevitably falls, and we're all supposed to laugh. Talk about slipshod direction and lack of continuity. Roland is smiling all through this scene. Wasn't a benign visage supposed to be his happy face? And then you have Roland at the supermarket shopping for feminine hygeine products. Roland has two underlings. Send them. But every prospective love story in a hack movie like "Man of the House" needs a meet-cute. What is the English professor's perspective in this scene? A man buying tampons; be still my beating heart? "Man of the House" is instantly forgettable, not exactly funny, not exactly good by any stretch of the imagination, but the cheerleader who develops a crush on Roland lends the film an accidental sweetness. This movie was basic crap and a waste of my movie rental dollars. However, what really pissed me off was the smart ass comments on this website of Gary B. who commented in a bitchy fasion on the assessment of Vince H., knocking this Vince H. and making out like he was an indiot to expect something original from this movie. This Gary B. stated "of course it was going to suck." Why would Vince H. or anyone else for that matter expect that top named stars like Tommy Lee Jones would automatically make a movie that would suck? Did Tommy Lee Jones sign up and do a movie that he knew would automatically suck? Gary B. - you did not see this movie. Expand

Very, very lighthearted fare. The typical popcorn movie. Best part of the movie was watching the gorgeous Kelli Garner (as Barb) and her adorable facial expressions. She made the most of her role with an ensemble cast.

Mindless, vapid fare... Watching the movie, you'll feel really dirty.
  2. Nearly every one of the film's emotional scenes is too predictable to hit its mark, but Mr. Jones's dry delivery has its moments.

And if you can't figure out who [the bad guy] is the minute he first appears, you've either seen too few movies with mind-numbingly predictable plots or you've seen far too many.
