It’s a twisted existential grotesque that wrings thought-provoking pathos and even affection for the lunatics running the menagerie, no mean feat.
The joy of Men & Chicken is the way the absurdist comedy can dissolve to expose some intriguing philosophical arguments.

Anders Thomas Jensen is officially my new favorite director. With "Men & Chicken" being only the third title of his that I have watched so far, it is safe to say that no other filmmaker has quite enthralled me with their earnestly comedic take on life.
Can't wait to go over all of his filmography featuring the usual collaborators that include the brilliant Mads Mikkelsen.
PS: Danes have the best sense of humor. Change my mind!

Schon seine tiefschwarze Erfolgskomödie Adams Äpfel überschritt vergnügt so manche moralische Grenze – Anders Thomas Jensens Men & Chicken jedoch erreicht South Park-Niveau: Die dezent debilen Brüder Gabriel (David Dencik) und Elias (Mads Mikkelsen) erfahren über ein Video des verstorbenen Vaters schockierendes: Papa war nicht wirklich Papa – und drei weitere Brüder leben auf der ausgestorbenen Insel Ork. So verschlägt es das ekelig würgende und dauermasturbierende Geschwisterpaar auf der Suche nach der Vergangenheit ins tiefste Hillbillyhausen – wo hasenschartige Männer noch in einem Bett schlafen, sich mit ausgestopften Tieren verprügeln und finstere Geheimnisse im Keller lauern. Streckenweise zwar etwas übertrieben und allzu gewollt, feiert Men & Chicken ein Fest des Skurrilen, fernab gängiger Gags oder guten Geschmacks. Überraschenderweise ist der dänische Skandalfilm dabei genauso Gaga-Komödie wie unangenehmer Redneck-Horror – und Platz für etwas Tiefe ist auch noch.

In Jensen's uniquely wacky world, there's a genuine affection for his offbeat characters.
As visually overstuffed as a hoarder’s apartment, the movie improves as it goes.
There is meaning beneath the madness, but Men & Chicken is best recommended to those who are prepared to sit through the deeply sinister absurdity.
The movie’s grave commitment to its own quirkiness is admirable, I suppose. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to recommend it.
The film is grotesque and bizarre without ever really being funny, and while the sight of Mikkelsen as a nebbishy loser is initially bracing, the novelty wears off fast, leaving little else.

Two brothers and their quest to find the truth.
A strange Danish film. It was a lot like the Danish version of 'The Addams Family'. Written and directed by a screenwriter for the notable films in different languages. This is the story of two brothers who embark a journey to a remote island after their father died. Because they learn they were adopted, so they go to look for their biological parents. They end up in a strange house with the strange people, but realise how they are related to each other. So the remaining part focused on the mysteries surrounding the house. When those things come out, the narration reaches its peak and brings the end.
I think the title should have been 'Men & Animals'. If you watch the film you will know the reason, particularly after the final twist. As I had observed, many people liked it, but to me it was average. The idea seems very good, but the style was missing. Too ordinary presentation. If the approach was atypical like I said 'The Addams Family', it would have gained more popularity internationally.
The actors were good, shoot in the good places. Among all, Nikolaj was the familiar face. This is not your usual film, yet not for everyone. Maybe if you know the language, you might enjoy it better. The subtitle translated comedies are not that effective. Feels like I want to like it, since it was tagged as a comedy I did not get many laughs. So I won't stop you if you want to try it, but only tell you to be careful while choosing it, regarding what you are expecting from it.
