So great. This is what movies are about. The effects are amazing and the story is timeless if a little bit romanticized. The more I watch classic movies, the more I see modern ones as cheap ripoffs. Modern audiences have been ruined by big studios feeding them trash. Unfortunate but true. Make sure you see the new restored version!

Anyone who has any sense of movie history has to view this for what it is--probably the most influential movie ever. Dr. Strangelove, Star Wars (3CPO), any movie with a mad scientist in it. They all copied (with reverence) from this one. I had been looking forward to this restoration, and I was not disappointed. It looked as if it was filmed recently, not 75 years ago.

10! It is a masterpiece. Do you people who dissed this movie realize that every film made since has copied some element of this classic? If you don't respect this movie, then you simply don't like MOVIES!

I was lucky enough to see "Metropolis" in a large, ancient theatre on Chicago's far north side. It was accompanied by a LIVE pipe organ throughout the film which intensified the experience beyond anything I could have hoped for. This movie is stunning!

It's definitely the best silent film ever crafted, and arguably one of the best movies of all time. Silent films usually try to avoid complex plot and multiple storylines because of the limitations of the medium, but Fritz Lang succeeds in connecting all of the loose ends in his monumental vision to produce one of the greatest stories to grace the silver screen.

The single most influential film in history. Modern sci-fi would not even exist if it wasnt for this masterpiece. The worlds look amazing and completely unique. Camera work and editing is creative and 1 of a kind. Brigitte Helm could have one of the best female performances of all time, her facial expressions as the machine are insane. One of the best films of all time no contest. If you say otherwise your mentally incapable of viewing film. People said this movie is "to formulaic". THATS BECAUSE IT CREATED THE FORMULA! It was 1927 for goodness sake. The first of it's kind. I watched it again now in 2011 and it still creates emotional impact on the viewer. This is my all time favorite. This movies rules. Just look at the actors face - this real actor - no sound to help...

Theres a really deep and meaningful meaning if you look deep enough into the movie...but somehow,the movie is a bit silly a certain parts though.

This film is almost like a novel, the viewer has to put a great deal of effort into understanding the text. What's necessary is the ability to transport oneself to the era in which this picture was created, and understand both the historical and technical bacground to science-fiction filmaking as well as contemporary political, economic, and social issues.

Saying "It only got 100 cos it's old" is about the same as "I'm only giving it 2 cos it's old". Grow. Up. Metropolis is 75 years old. It's from a different world. You can't review it in the same terms as movies from nowadays, unless you're a chimp. It's one of the greatest movies ever made. 100?? Not a chance! This movie was made only for the purpose of showing off fancy 3D combined with classical animation. The smooth movements, flashy graphics and good voice acting is about the only thing that keeps this movie's 'head above water' so to speak. This may as well have been made by Disney as it has the same ol' guy meets girl, bad guy wants domination, willing to (kill,hurt)things and people, good guy wants to stop bad guy, bad guy loses, the end. You didn't need to read this to figure it out. Slight twist at the end I'm sure people won't enjoy, since they were already expecting something else from watching the movie for an hour and a half but I'm sure you'll get over it as it really isn't that great. … Expand

Here we go again...An old movie getting top reviews. Its ok, but it is not deserving of a 100 score. Get real!!

This movie has 3 genuinely great scenes. When the factory takes on the semblance of Moloch, the awakening of the robot woman, and the greatest of all(and still ahead of its time)the tale of the Tower of Babel. Much of the rest is silly, ridiculous, or worse though there are some impressive expressionistic flourishes throughout. YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT!!!! You're judging it by the trailer and the commercials, what are you on?! You can't give a movie you've never seen a perfect score! And I'm in total agreement that a movie should not get a high score simply because it's old.

I dearly love this movie, it is a shame large chunks of it are lost; unfortunaltely the studio hired a hack to re-cut the movie, there are no known prints of the original. Archivists have done their best to reassemble it as best they could but unfortunately the movie as Fritz Lang created it is lost forever. My ONLY reason for not giving it a 100 is it is an imperfect recreation of the original. Great that the remaining original material has been cleaned up at last. A case in point for the necessity of preserving film as a cultural legacy. … Expand

The rerelease of this 75 year old masterpiece is the best thing that has happened this year in the world of film. Metropolis is an artistic and cultural triumph, a landmark of the 20th century.

I haven't seen it yet, though I have seen the commercial and the trailer. Judging by the trailler, commercial, votes and reviews this movie deserves to be "The One". A perfect score of a 100 is what it should have had. The person who rated this movie 3/10 needs a life. If he/she thinks nothing can be perfect, he/she is mistaken big time. Something has to be perfect, why not Metropolis?

I think you guys are just prejudice because it is old. I used to be like that. But I've since passed that stage of my childhood. I agree, this movie isnt perfect, but think that this was made a long time ago. Compare it to other movies from the same time. It blows them out of the water. Much better than Cowboys Vs. the Aliens.

I saw the original a few years back,and i'm in total agreement with some of the other people who said that just 'cause it's old dosn't mean it's perfect. yes, it's very moody and dark, but it's nowhere NEAR perfection.
