Jeunet maintains a firm control of his dreamscape creation, drawing on influences as varied as "Toy Story," "Children of Paradise," and TV's "Mission: Impossible."

A mi me gustó mucho y para mi gusto duró poco. Tiene de todo, acción, risas, momentos felices, momentos tristes, etc. La película se hace propaganda a sí misma, eso me dio gracia, seguro que se hace en otras también pero fue un buen detalle. El director por lo general es muy original, no lo digo solo por esta película, sino por la sumatoria de su material cinematográfico.
Si uno quiere le puede criticar la trama, la cual pasa rápido y no es nada del otro mundo. Pero como dice el dicho, "menos es más " y con todo esto logra sacar adelante una muy linda película

What an all round great movie Totally unknown but thanks to an airing on uk freeview might just be about to take off! Highly innovative steam punk revenge! The French humour translates to English tastes everything about this film is superb. Off to Amazon to buy a copy- this is one to watch time and time again!

Micmacs is an inventive romp punctuated by the kind of quirkiness Jeunet has brought to all his films.
Clever but, alas, largely forgettable.
I look at a film like this and must respect it for its ingenuity and love of detail. Then I remember "Amelie" and its heroine played by Audrey Tautou, and I understand what's wrong: There's nobody in the story who much makes us care.
Micmacs brings an infectious note of caprice to the old-fashioned caper film.
Highly visual but cold. It's undeniably inventive, but also relentlessly fey and self-consciously zany and, in terms of story, it moves with audacious slowness.
Sadly, pretty much every movie by Jean-Pierre Jeunet after his uber-successful "Amelie" seems to be rather underappreciated, and Micmacs is no different -- it certainly didn't get any wide release where I live.
In short, it's a charming story, it features Jeunet's trademark visual style, and is certainly worth watching. I don't agree with one of the previous reviewers that it is "emotionally empty", but I would go as far as calling it rather naive, which matters especially since there is some kind of moral undercurrent running throughout the movie. Then again, most mainstream movies are not particularly deep, and at least Micmacs contains great visuals and excellent acting, so I'm inclined to (almost) unconditionally recommend it.

Pretty like Amelie, but emotionally empty and heavily masculine in tone. Jeunet's panache and flair is evident through set design and camerawork but the story feels detached in a way that doesn't reflect the risk associated with life and death situations. Jeunet's sophisticated style is let down by narrative ironicism and though enjoyable, there is only just enough comedy in here to propel the lightweight story. Obviously if you are expecting fantasy and surrealism then you won't be disappointed. It sounds like I am being harsh, but Jeunet is a master of his craft and this is not a masterpiece. 69/100
