  • Summary: A story of five seemingly unrelated people, each of whom has profound pain, a deep desire, tremendous drive and a need for forgiveness, whether of themselves, their parents, their ex-lovers, or the Gods they believe in. Throughout the story, their lives thematically intertwine though they never meet, until the end of the film when, through different circumstances, they all end up in New York and their lives and the story gains it's meaning and resolve.     Mr. Schaeffer takes his time cryptically setting up his characters' situations in the film. When they finally start moving toward one another and revealing their secrets, the revelations flow like diet soda.

    Eric Schaeffer's rip-off -- er, homage -- to "Magnolia," is a marginally better movie than his previous self-absorbed atrocities like "My Life's in Turnaround" and "Wirey Spindell."

    I didn't expect much from this film, as it was required for a Philosophy class here at Notre Dame, but I was nothing short of impressed and it quickly made my favorites list. The acting was suprisingly honest, the music was fantastic, and it evoked emotions out of me that any movie would be hard-pressed to do. I will be buying a copy immediately. Magnolia wishes it were this sincere. I'd say Crash is a better comparison, but it deals with of relationships, instead of stereotypes and ignorance.… Expand
