A rib-tickling homage to the gumshoe shows of yesteryear, with an endearingly daffy mindset.
Thorncroft is a gem of comedy creation – played to perfection by Barratt.

Mindhorn is a ridiculous comic creation taken to extraordinary, laugh-a-minute heights.
The film is very, very funny, consistently.
Co-writers Julian Barratt and Simon Farnaby fly the flag for a rare original idea with the goofy, genial, fitfully inspired Mindhorn.
For fans of Barratt, Boosh and mock-heroic Britcoms, it’ll mostly hit the spot.
Though stuck with stretches of guff and looking all too convincingly like video-era rubbish TV, Mindhorn delivers regular proper laughs and eventually wrings just enough drops of pathos to scrape by.
This is a pretty silly film - its a British comedy type spoof of sorts, of a washed up actor from a 1980s detective show. It features quite a lot of crude language, more specifically sex references and the titular character is a bit like an Alan Partridge type - indeed Steve Coogan, who plays Alan Partridge, features in this film asn ex-colleague of Mindhorn.
Its quite a cheesy film and a little cliched I thought. Its fairly entertaining I suppose and its an easy enough watch, generally but its certainly nothing new and its definitely not the sort of film I'm likely to think about at all after seeing it. If it comes on TV then it may be worth a watch, if there's little else on I suppose but thats about all I can say for it really, so I wouldn't especially recommend it, no.
