This movie is well done and has no fatal flaws. Unfortunately, I can't see much in it for people who are not hockey fans. Thankfully, Miracle is short on sentiment and long on hockey. We get a good insight into the character of Herb Brooks. We see some great hockey action. The larger hook is not really there, although the attempt is made. Good movie, not spine tingling.

This movie is one of the best feel good movies I have seen. I left the theater happy and with the feeling that we were there celebrating with the rest of the world. It is definitely a movie I am having my volleball team that I coach go see together. It is very inspirational and makes you want to play harder no matter what sport you are involved in! Kurt Russell did an outstanding job and the real hockey players did an amazing job bringing the game to life. Expand

Tremendously well acted. Kurt Russell is simply outstanding portraying Herb Brooks both the coach, but more importantly, the man. He is a self absorbed driven force, whom without his conviction and unconventional approach, you come to realize that the Miracle of 19080 could not have happened. Not only does the film capture a modern day version of David and Goliath, but it explains that his tough love touched the very lives of the young men he inspired. It taught them about a work ethic as well as the meaning of life. This is a must see movie in which the MAN, Herb Brooks, sacrifices his family and himself in order to achieve his dream of making the Miracle happen. As a result, all those around him benefited not just for a few weeks, but for the rest of their lives. And all too briefly, we as Americans rediscovered our pride. If this film doesn't get your juices going, then there isn't any blood flowing through your veins. Expand

THE best and most realistic hockey movie on the market... although I am a Canadian, the hockey fan in me loved this flick. Game scenes were well shot and entertaining and the acting was superb... although Kurt Russell is the obvious standout, every player fits the mould of their character- as the DVD says, the director looked for 'hockey players who could act', not actors who could skate. That brings quite a bit of realism to what otherwise could've been an ordinary movie. I could watch this movie again and again... if you love sports movies, you will enjoy Miracle! Expand

Travis, don't you think you're nit picking just a little bit. Miracle was tremendous and I felt the same swell of American Pride that I felt when the event actually happened. I would advise any potential moviegoers to just go and relive the magic. Kurt Russell was as good as in any film he has ever been in. He captured the measure of the man (Herb Brooks) who without his intensity and will to be the best THE MIRACLE would have never happened. Just a wonderful feel good movie. Expand

I'm just amazed at the warped sense of reality some people have. In reading Mark's review he gave this film, unfairly I might add, a 4 based on the fact that the player's didn't use profanity. Do they in real life? Of course, we all do. But when we watch network TV, and especially all of these reality shows, no one curses F--- You, M-ther F--ker or uses any of that language. I guess Donald Trump and the American Idol contestants never learned those words; nor did the Doctors of ER, the cast of Friends, NYPD Blue, Frazier or Raymond? The point is we all know that curse words are adjectives we use in our everyday vocabulary. Did it have to be included in Miracle to make "Freakin" Mark feel his reality. Of course not. The movie is simply wonderful despite the fact we didn't hear one "Oh Sh-t!" Where have American values gone? Expand

Since the "miracle on ice" game is my all time favorite moment in sports, I've been looking forward to seeing this movie ever since I've heard they were making it. Despite the anticipation, I wasn't expecting a good film. I feared it would be a cheesy, over emotional David versus Golieth type movies they usually try to turn sport movies into, but it wasn't any of the above. Thankfully, they didn't try to knock you over the head with the magnitude of the achievement. Russell nailed Brooks down, according to his former players, and was about as accurate as one can expect from Hollywood, which impressed me. Even the actual goals developed and were scored in the movie exactly how it occurred in the real game, which had to be difficult in a fast moving sport like hockey. Yes, they did have Al Michaels do voice overs all of the play by play, except for the famous line at the end, but he did say the exact same words in the real game. I liked the movie so much I've seen it twice, and even enjoyed it more the second time, and a few non hockey fans I know also loved it, which is the true test for this movie. Expand

I loved this movie and the hot guys in it (wink wink : Michael Mantenuto) It gave you a sense of accomplishment, good feeling, and, well, miracles. Every time the US team made a goal, I almost started to clap, because I was so excited. You knew what was going to end up happening, but you still got into the movie. My nails are shorter too, from all the suspense and build. Too bad they can't make a sequel to a movie like this one, because I would see it in a snap! Expand

I want to give this an 8, but it didn't stick with me quite enough to take it up that one notch. Every actor does a solid job, and if you're a Kurt Russell fan, it's a can't miss. All the other "unknowns" are wonderful as a team, on the ice and off. The hockey scenes are well shot. A movie worthy of the real life moment, even if it does play it safe.

This is a very enjoyable film for people of all ages - regardless of one's interest level of hockey. What impressed me most about the film is the way it explains why this event was so important for Americans in this time period. The only reason why it doesn't deserve more than an 8 is because the outcome is never in doubt. Overall it reminds me of The Rookie. The Rookie was just a bit more enjoyable because it's more of an emotionally engaging film than Miracle. Expand

Not enough Herb Brooks for me to realize that without his intestinal fortitude The Miracle would never have happened. Kurt was on top of his game and deserves recognition for the style and grace he portrayed in bringing the late great Herb Brooks on the silver screen. This film demonstrates how important this Coach was to all of us as he returned American Pride.

Too many times does Herb Brooks reveal his heart of gold. "Miracle" might've benefited by telling the story from a hockey player's POV, and let Coach Brooks be more of an enigma. Let him be aloof, sometimes a bastard, hated by his players, and then reveal his sensitive side. When the coach has to cut a player, his remorse is too demonstrative. "Miracle('s)" preoccupation with making the audience like Herb Brooks dillutes what made him interesting. Expand

Well, first of all the movie was about American hockey, which I absolutly dispise. That's why i hated the movie. Because I hate Americans. There was also to much Russel in it, there should of been more hockey. Michael Mantenuto was an extremly good loooking guy that made me "a little" interested in the movie. That's the only reason why i watched it.

Well Katrina, I hate sports movies, but this one was pretty good, I must admit. I liked how it showed what was going on in the world at that time, and I really liked the scene with Herb driving home listening to Jimmy Carter's speech. A great film, well acted, and true....pretty damn cool if you ask me, and I don't even watch hockey....maybe I'll start! Too bad, Katrina, that you let your hatred of America stand in the way of a great film. You're missing out! Expand

Having seen the game on television and the HBO special, I thought the recreation was limp. Instead of using Al Michael's original voice from the archives, they dubbed his voice and the intensity just wasn't there. The players did not portray an authentic level of excitement either---- bad directing. Kurt Russell's accent is not Minnesotan, but a very heavy Chicago dialect which bothered me for some reason. If you want to re-live the magic, watch the HBO special. Expand

Definitely had Disney's fingers all over the finished product. Are you trying to tell me that the coaches, players, etc. NEVER used profanity during the fights, arguments, brutal training regimen, etc.? I'm not asking for Quentin Tarantino, but it was so obviously unrealistic.

Johnny Canuck do I detect a little hatred for the red, white & blue in your commentary? If so, why don't you take a trip to Cuba or Iraq and see how they treat you? This is not a poltical statement board it is for reviewing movies. The Miracle of 1980 stands as one of the all time great SPORTS moments in American History. Kurt Russell delivered a knockout blow as the late Herb Brooks who without his work ethic and committment THE MIRACLE would not have been possible. Now let me see YOUR Canuck PROFESSIONAL NHL ALL STARS LOST to this same Russian Team six months earlier on HOME ICE 6 - 0. A bunch of 21 year-old NON-PROFESSIONAL college kids who had never played together as a team then beat these same PROFESSIONAL Russian's who had not lost a game in ten years. And to you it is wasn't a big deal? Do us a favor and take your anti-American sentiment and defend your own damn country. As a result of THIS MIRACLE we have AMERICAN pride. GO USA. Expand

I just came back from seeing a sold out presentation of Miracle. Based on the reaction of the audience I can report that it is a winner. It is hard to believe that nearly a quarter of a century has passed since this real life David and Goliath happened? Less we forget that the Russians were a professional hockey team and had soundly defeated the NHL All-Stars 6 - 0 a few months earlier. Here they were playing against kids and if not for the late Herb Brooks inspiration superbly portrayed by Kurt Russell the miracle would have never happened. Don't miss this wonderfully entertaining film as it will have you cheering once again as it ignites American pride. Expand

This is my favorite movie now for a few reasons. Firstly, because it showed how much it takes to play hockey and get to the top like the guys did. Secondly, it showed how muh better they got throughout the movie (couple of months!) Also cause it had Michael Mantenuto in it! He is hilarious and wicked HOT! This movie was really similar to what happened in real life and i congratulate the movie producers and the actors for their efforts! Two thumbs up guys! Expand

How cares? How many gold medals have been won since then in hockey? How many more exciting and pivotal hockey games have been played since that one? Miracle: Made by Disney, paid for by the committee to re-elect George W. Bush. There's no reason to drudge up this story again. Carl Malden (sp) did it once and once is enough. Oh, and this movie will be as popular in Canada as Triumph of the Will in 1940s Moscow. Expand

Though it seems like an overwhelming job to make a movie about hockey in the 80s, Gavin O'Connor had the vision, persistence, insight and patience for this mighty job, plus the smarts to shape stage veterans and overlooked film actors into a seamless cast. He's made himself as immortal as a movie director can be. What an incredilble film. I liked it very much.
