    Mondays in the Sun --- excellent movie --- not for Hollywood Morons.

    Since a good portion of "Mondays in the Sun" is devoted to barfly-dom, and the personalities of these men aren't particularly distinct or engaging, you may wonder how this film can succeed. It doesn't always, but the restraint this director shows by not following through on the possibility of a forbidden romance, at the expense of spicing up the tedium, is kinda admirable. Either, "Mondays in the Sun" should've been a little bit funnier, or more gloomy, to help color the monotony, green or gray, instead of this whiter shade of pale. A near-miss. The ending is the most inconclusive one I've seen since "Limbo"(Sayles).… Expand

    Definitely worth a look, although very, very gloomy. Very good ensemble cast, although Bardem shines through the most. The ending didn't strike me as being inconclusive...maybe I was too depressed at the end to be paying such close attention.

    I usually find it hard to follow foriegn movies , because you can't take your eyes off the screen without missing some of the dialougue, or I find it hard to keep up of with the subtitles when they talk fast. So, I generally get fustrated with the movie all together, this was not the case for Mondays in the Sun. The movie follows the lives of six friends after they were laid off from their jobs. The acting was tremendous, and an exceptional performance was given buy Javier Barden. Barden plays Santa a rebelous man full of pride, who refuses to submit to the company policy. The film is a must for the average man the worker, and even though, I lack a certain blind patriotism that many display today, I found this foriegn movie something that the american worker can relate to.… Expand

    wow. some moments of powerful dialogue, impeccably acted. yes, it's restrained.

    Fortunately, no one seems to have clued Bardem in on the game plan, and the fierceness and complexity he brings to his role nearly saves Mondays In The Sun.

    The tired and washed-out Spanish town is a fitting backdrop for these men - a place where life moves on around them at an uninspiring pace.
