    Gamely thesped, lowbrow farce.

    Poire's comedy often pushes the definition of good taste to its limit. Many of his jokes are vulgar and crass. Too often, they're downright puerile.

    It doesn't help that the cast is populated by unfunny actors, with the possible exception of Evans, who is an appealing presence if not necessarily a great comedienne.

    Aside from Laspalès's enlivening physical humor, Poiré's forced, formulaic comedy of errors has little to offer.
  5. The obvious forerunner of My Wife Maurice, is "La Cage aux Folles," a movie that is several cuts above this frantically overwrought imitator.
