A genuinely funny but amateurishly constructed laffer from Derrick Comedy, a troupe of YouTube-savvy NYU grads with promising writing careers ahead of them.
  2. The twentysomething talents behind Mystery Team are still in the comedy minors, but this nerdy, nutty, perfectly pitched first swing suggests there are major things to come.

Mystery Team is a guilty pleasure - a deeply dumb movie made by pretty smart people.

The results are hit-and-miss. Some bits fall thuddingly flat, and the characters are rarely more than stick figures.

There is only one joke here, milked endlessly.

  1. Hilarious (in a childish sense), laid-back and absolutely ridiculous. The perfect mindless flick. Critics will hate it for its low cinematography but this movie not only hits the bar for funny but incremently raises it. Donald Glover is impeccable, hilarious, and yet does not take his role too seriously which just adds to the film's bravado. The jokes are endless, and the chemistry is on-point. I could not stop laughing. A movie to watch at any time of the day whether sad or happy. A great choice for an easy laugh. Full Review »

Rarely will I walk out of a film and here I did just that. It is not funny. Acting or comedy is simply not saying ones lines louder than usual (which occurs much too often here). There is nothing fresh in this poor attempt at comedy. I would love to interview those who liked the film so to discern their intelligence. educational level or lack thereof. This film is for those with a very unsophisticated, poorly developed sense of humor. These people will love this film while most of us will wonder how did the bar get so low. Maybe the End is near after all. Full Review »

Very funny, dragged a bit toward the end. Obviously geared toward comedy lovers and not professional film buffs who probably would have dissed "Airplane!" upon first release. The story felt a bit long, some things felt contrived, but the laughs never cease, Full Review »
