  • Summary: Jack Bishop lives the life of every man’s dream with a beautiful wife and a happy, healthy daughter, Toby. He has the career he always wanted and a loving home in a peaceful Texas border town. But it is no coincidence that Jack’s life seems perfect. His past hides a black secret, one he hides from his family, one he hides from himself. When Toby goes missing, Jack knows his past has come back to haunt him. He also knows the only way he can find her is to use the powers of his long forgotten faith, La Santa Muerte, protectors of the sinner, the worshippers of the dead. (Anchor Bay Entertainment) Expand

  1. The cast sparkles especially Simon Baker, a sturdy leading-man type, who is primed to break through any day now, and Paz Vega, already a star in Latin market.

If the film's first two-thirds are dreary and preposterous, give Soref credit for a truly -- what's the proper cinematic terminology? -- batshit-crazy finale involving demented religious sects, ridiculously bloody face-offs and a gaggle of cross-dressing Mexican prostitutes.
  3. None of it makes any sense, but it is just nutty enough to provide a few (entirely unintended) laughs.

Outstanding thriller with twists and turns and a menacing end.

I just watched this film and I've already completely forgotten it. Simon Baker was some sort of father-assassin, fumbling through garbage dialogue and a wickedly bad story, while acting generally like talentless eunich. Expand
