  1. Obsessed has little plausibility, but at moments it's an entertaining bad movie, and the performers are vivid.

Isn't half as dramatic as what probably went down after she (Beyoncé Knowles) kicked LaTavia and LaToya out of Destiny's Child.

The singer-actress' saucy, glamorously wry performance makes up for some of the film's inherent predictability.

Don't expect a pot full of boiling bunnies, because nothing so creatively crazy ever happens in Obsessed, a "Fatal Attraction"-inspired predatory-female domestic thriller that spends much time spinning its wheels and making auds practically beg for an explanation to all the madness and obsession.
  5. Every move is telegraphed well in advance thanks to desultory writing, routine direction and ample musical cues.
  6. The film may seem a bit undercooked until it gets to the staging of the ultimate battle, but Obsessed is swinging from the chandeliers by the end.

Takes far too long to get cooking, and it works so hard at NOT being exploitation that it loses sight of its reasons for existing in the first place.

Larter just doesn't have the same bite as the bunny-killing stalkers of years gone by.

Doing his best to class up the joint, "The Wire's" Idris Elba stars as the perfect man.
  10. Unfortunately, the whole movie seems constructed just to get the singer/actress into a knock-down catfight, shoehorning one of show business's sexiest entertainers into a scorned-woman role. And even then, the pay-off feels cheap.
  11. The movie's most disturbing aspect, of which the filmmakers could not have been unaware, is the physical resemblance between Mr. Elba and Ms. Larter to O. J. and Nicole Brown Simpson. It lends Obsessed a distasteful taint of exploitation.

Memo to Beyoncé Knowles: You were so good as Etta James in "Cadillac Records," so why'd you go spoil everything with a rank cheeseball thriller that buries you in clichés and won't even help you dig yourself out?

  1. THIS movie had sooooooooo much potential, but i hate to say it but Beyonce really ruined this movie for me. Singers becoming actors just doesn't work, i mean look at Mariah Carey and Chris Brown. They really shoulda casted Taraji .P. Henson for Beyonce's role. She woulda gave that character some life. Idris and Ali Larter were good and their roles but they shoulda expanded more on why she was OBSSESSED with him to begin with. Full Review »
  2. Well, the movie has two amazing woman, Beyoncé and Ali Larter. Beyoncé's performance really surprised me and Ali's was good as always. I didn't think the movie is great, screenplay wasn't original, I already had seen many movies like this but I enjoyed a lot the fight at the end. It's a decent movie. Full Review »
