This was a fun movie. Nothing Oscar worthy, just a fun movie for people who have read the books. Katherine Heigl did a better job than I thought. Fun!

Honestly, I don’t understand what movie the critics were watching, because the movie I saw was very entertaining and well done. As a fan of the books, I resigned myself to be disappointed with this big screen version, especially given the reviews. Imagine my surprise when the movie turned out to be good, light-hearted FUN – something that has been sorely missing from movies of late. If you like the books, you’ll probably like this movie. And if you’ve never read the books, you’ll probably want to after seeing it. Don’t let the critics scare you away. And for the makers of this film I have two words: MORE PLEASE!!! Expand

As a huge fan of the books, I really liked this movie. It was very entertaining. Katherine Heigl was a great Stephanie. For the critics who said she looks terrible (the hair, etc)...that is how the character is written...also the complaints all the shots of Rex the hamster....we fans of the books get it. Rex is very special to Stephanie needed to be included. I hope there will be more Stephanie plum movies!! Expand

Enjoyed One for the Money. One of the better romantic comedies I've seen in some time, and my husband enjoyed it too. I don't understand the vituperation and bad reviews from critics. We see 1 or 2 movies a week & this was entertaining & good fun. Should be rated accordingly.

Preview: ONE FOR THE MONEY is awful in every possible way. It is a strong contender for my award as worst film of the year and we're still in January. Generally, I like Katherine Heigl but she is woefully miscast and so poorly directed that she seems to have wandered onto the wrong set . And she looks terrible, is poorly photographed ...and THAT HAIR! This is the first time I've been aware of Jason O'Mara and feel he has untapped potential for parts suited to Gerard Butler or Clive Owen. Director Julie Ann Robinson has some decent television directing credits which surprises me based on the evidence here. And...I hated the musical scoring blamed on Deborah Lurie. There are eight credited producers. They should all be ashamed of themselves for allowing this piece of crap to escape the movie theatres. Expand

Angels: I love movies, and I liked this movie. It is a romantic comedy, and the most important thing is whether the leading man and leading lady work; y'know, the chemistry thing. Well they work o.k. Katherine Heigl is beautiful, and charming, and this role is a little grittier than some of her previous work. And honestly, she looks soooo much better with her dark hair. She looks so more real and natural then when she is blonde. (Sorry, just a prejudice of mine-nothing wrong with real blondes, just fake ones.) The leading man did not match pretty Kate in charm, and attractiveness (a not so stunning young Mel Gibson lookalike) but their relationship was at least plausible. I liked the realism, and grittiness of the plot; unusually hard-nosed for a romantic comedy, and I liked the blue collar east coast feel. I only give this a 7 (though sweet Kate gets a 10) because the production values were frugal, and the dialog was not as sharp and witty as the plot required. Still, my sweetheart and I had an enjoyable evening...watching the movie. Fly safely Expand

After reading reviews of One for the Money, I was ready for disappointment. Thankfully, the reviews proved to be wrong. One for the Money IS exactly what I hoped for over the years ever since I got hooked on the Stephanie Plum series. When I first heard the casting decisions, I was worried. No need to stress. Heigl nails the role of Stephanie. Several reviewers I've read said the movie was unbelievable. I had no problem suspending my disbelief. If you like the books, go see the movie. You won't be sorry. This movie is just what the books are, light entertainment. A very enjoyable way to spend a hour and a half. Now just because the actors are not who you had pictured in your mind is a normal reaction. My wife and I have read all the books including between the numbers books and enjoyed the movie a lot , it was fun talking about how the actors fit what we had pictured them in our minds but we didn't let that cloud our judgement of the movie. We both hope that they come out with a series of movies because they will get better as the characters settle in and we get to see grandma burn down the funeral home try and get a peek at who ever is laid out. Have the critics who are giving these bad reviews actually READ any of these books? Katherine Heigl is GREAT as Stephanie Plum and the movie was fun to watch. Let's hope that this undeserved negativity won't ruin the chances that we can enjoy some more of our favorite Evanovich books on the big screen!

This is why I had reviewers. They have no idea what "we" want to see. I read the book and this movie was fun to watch and held my interest. I'm glad I went, regardless of what the worthless reviewers have to say

I really don't understand the harsh reviews for this movie. Saw the movie last night with my best friend and we had a blast! The characters thrown in the movie are colorful and lively, there is plot which seems to be a rarity in movies lately (which may not be terribly deep; however, it is entertaining and fun), there is story with enough background to ensure no one is confused but not bored with it, you learn a few fun things through the movie that you may not have known before, there is enough clean sexual fun without showing exploiting graphic nudity, and I really enjoyed the family dynamics the main character has to endure. Was the movie too short and a bit over simplified? A bit. However, with current audience attention spans I've observed, I definitely believe the movie found a great balance between it all. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Expand

Only sat through this one because my wife is a huge fan of the books. Based on reviews, I expected to be gouging my eyes out within the first 10 minutes (like I do w/ the Twilight flicks I've been forced to watch). I won't be watching it a 2nd time, and really thinking I'll suggest she sees any sequels with friends rather than her husband. That said, this wasn't nearly as awful as some of the reviews would have you believe. It's predictable, not sure how to balance the reality of the story with the desire to be lighthearted and fun. Maybe my tolerance is due to the fact that my wife has been watching Twilight movies on an endless loop lately, and this wasn't as bad as those films. But for what this was intended to be, I don't think it was the worst way to spend 90 minutes. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed the 1st minute of the film, and there were 1 or 2 good jokes, ok, but most of them weren't discreet enough, they were just pushed in your face. After 3 min, the main thing starts, no exposition. But the problem is: the main thing is boring as hell. SHe just goes around, speaks with some people, then makes an annoying statement, and this repeats till the end. Ramirez's character or whatever was his name is just not needed. The same things repeat: she runs, almost gets killed, then kisses the ex. Wasn't Stephanie so annoying, this film would be much better. Go watch the something else. Expand

I LOVE Stephanie Plum series books and I hated this move. I thought it was miscast except for Sheri Shepherd. I was very disappointed in Stephanie, Morelli and Ranger. Totally unbelievable and Stephanie 's family were not funny and the books are laugh out loud funny. The story had no substance and I was bored within the first 5 minutes. Very disappointed...

This is a profoundly bad movie that reinforces negative stereotypes and is filled with nonsensical moments (handcuffed to a spring-loaded shower curtain requires a key to handcuffs(?). This movie is not worth seeing in person--save your money!...

Apparently there’s a popular series of books featuring a bounty hunter named Stephanie Plum. The noon matinee was packed with fans, mostly women dragging their unsuspecting husbands. They giggled throughout because they knew the characters. If you didn’t know the characters , trust me, you still don’t. Katherine Heigl, who’s lovely to look at, couldn’t develop a character in a dark room, and she’s an executive producer here, so I’m sure that she’ll make boatloads of money. She shouldn’t be encouraged. This movie doesn’t rise to the standard of a bad, really bad Lifetime movie. There’s not a believable moment, portrayal, character, location, plot device or line of dialogue, in this, one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. The only chance this movie had was to be silent, like The Artist. Then I could have just looked at Heigl. The background noise would have been the Snoring Husbands, which, as Dave Barry says, would make a great name for a rock band. Every year I rank every movie I see all year. It’s only January and the basement has been established. Expand

I'm really having a hard time understanding the critics views on this, it was as true to the book as 1:46 can be to an 8 hour read. Fast paced, funny, well cast.. I'd vote 15 if I could, perhaps the critics are used to being paid off and the folks behind this failed to pay the toll. Interesting that last I looked it was #3 in $ at the box office, while running single digits in critical reviews. Maybe we need some critics with their finger on the pulse of movie viewers. Vote with your wallet, just go see it. Expand

I thought this movie was better than what the critics say it was. It was funny... when I was on my way to go watch it i though t it would be a chick flick based on what i read. It probably was if my mom liked it because she usually hates going to the movie theater so i think it would be a good movie to take your mom to little sister or family just don't take a dude because it might just raise some questions of your sexuality if you take a guy to the movie theater and your a guy. But for a girl it would be a great movie! Expand

Unemployed and desperate, Katherine Heigl's character, Stephanie goes to her weird cousin Vinnie for work. She becomes a bails-person and soon pursues Joe Morelli, who is a former vice cop and who is wanted for murder, and who also dropped the relationship between him and Stephanie in their high school past. Based on the novel by Janet Evanovich, One For The Money attempts to be a romantic comedy with action and for popcorn fare, well, director Julie Anne Robinson does fine. Katherine Heigl, Daniel Sunjata and Joe Morelli ar fun to watch. Expand

Wouldn't it make more sense on basic cable? Plum screen incarnate (and film producer) Katherine Heigl got her start in TV, on Roswell and Grey's Anatomy, and her public persona – a combination of prickliness and adoration-seeking that has famously grated on viewers' and critics' nerves alike – has historically played better there.

Most depressing is the spectacle of Debbie Reynolds in the de rigueur Betty White role - Hollywood having relegated seniors to the category of adorably "outrageous" while it caricatures single women as desperate updates on romance-novel heroines.

Flirty bickering is rampant but, courtesy of Heigl's inert performance, there's no heat or humor to the proceedings, just an avalanche of grating big-hair-and-bad-accent New Joisey caricatures.
