During a dinner with Stephanie's colorfully ethnic family, including a squandered Debbie Reynolds, the reaction shots arrive with bludgeoning regularity, and the soundtrack's burbling organ serves as an incessant reminder not to take anything seriously. Fortunately, there's no danger of that.
Most depressing is the spectacle of Debbie Reynolds in the de rigueur Betty White role - Hollywood having relegated seniors to the category of adorably "outrageous" while it caricatures single women as desperate updates on romance-novel heroines.

I've never been a big fan of movie adaptions of books, I often find that the directors add scenes or take out important scenes and the characters are never right. But I loved this adaption! And so have all of my friends and family.
I have been a fan of the books for as long as I can remember and I felt that this movie did them justice. Almost everything that was in the movie was in the book in some form, though a few scenes were mashed up. All the important ones were (the turkey scene and the shower scene being the most important) very well done and very close to the book. The dialogue was very well done and the plot moved along at a very good pace, it didn't get stuck on the relationship between Stephanie and Morelli.
As for casting Heigl may not have been my first choice for Stephanie, but I don't think anyone else would have done better. O'Mara (Morelli) and Sunjata (Ranger) were not quite right for there parts, but each was very convincing. Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Muzer was wonderful, and she was quite convincing. The best though was Sherri Shepherd as Lula, while all the rest were as close as you can get, she was exactly how I always pictured Lula.
If you are undecided on whether to watch this movie, I say go for it. It is one of my favourites and will always be.

I thought this movie was better than what the critics say it was. It was funny... when I was on my way to go watch it i though t it would be a chick flick based on what i read. It probably was if my mom liked it because she usually hates going to the movie theater so i think it would be a good movie to take your mom to little sister or family just don't take a dude because it might just raise some questions of your sexuality if you take a guy to the movie theater and your a guy. But for a girl it would be a great movie!

I guess I can't call the movie sexist as it was largely produced, directed and written by women. So I'll settle for calling it dull, corny and amateurish instead.
Listlessly directed by Julie Anne Robinson (Miley Cyrus's The Last Song) from a script written by a trio of writers (Stacy Sherman, Karen Ray and Liz Brixius), One for the Money is tepidly glib throughout.
She's (Heigl) disastrously miscast as a character beloved by fans of novelist Janet Evanovich.
Everything in One for the Money rings cringingly false, from Heigl's absurd Snooki accent to Plum's romance with Joe Morelli, an Italian cop, played by – faith and begorrah – Jason O'Mara. To dismiss Julie Anne Robinson's direction as clueless would be a kindness.
I'm really having a hard time understanding the critics views on this, it was as true to the book as 1:46 can be to an 8 hour read. Fast paced, funny, well cast.. I'd vote 15 if I could, perhaps the critics are used to being paid off and the folks behind this failed to pay the toll. Interesting that last I looked it was #3 in $ at the box office,while running single digits in critical reviews. Maybe we need some critics with their finger on the pulse of movie viewers. Vote with your wallet, just go see it.

Unemployed and desperate, Katherine Heigl's character, Stephanie goes to her weird cousin Vinnie for work. She becomes a bails-person and soon pursues Joe Morelli, who is a former vice cop and who is wanted for murder, and who also dropped the relationship between him and Stephanie in their high school past.
Based on the novel by Janet Evanovich, One For The Money attempts to be a romantic comedy with action and for popcorn fare, well, director Julie Anne Robinson does fine. Katherine Heigl, Daniel Sunjata and Joe Morelli ar fun to watch.

Only sat through this one because my wife is a huge fan of the books. Based on reviews, I expected to be gouging my eyes out within the first 10 minutes (like I do w/ the Twilight flicks I've been forced to watch). I won't be watching it a 2nd time, and really thinking I'll suggest she sees any sequels with friends rather than her husband. That said, this wasn't nearly as awful as some of the reviews would have you believe. It's predictable, not sure how to balance the reality of the story with the desire to be lighthearted and fun. Maybe my tolerance is due to the fact that my wife has been watching Twilight movies on an endless loop lately, and this wasn't as bad as those films. But for what this was intended to be, I don't think it was the worst way to spend 90 minutes.

"One for the money" was a very bad movie, with a little interesting plot, and the very dry performance of Katherine Heigl, I do not know but almost getting to the end I got bored.
