I found it bizarre and limp and all over the place and not in a good, messy, lifelike way.

Dylan and Nikki are an awkward match at best, and their combined story is about as creative/convincing as a Hallmark card.
  3. The mawkishness is ultimately too formidable.
  4. 0
A movie so bad it's not even worth watching on DVD.

I agree with ElliotH. @ how critics could taint one's view of a move if all we listened to are the compendium of what rottentomatoes.comI agree with ElliotH. @ how critics could taint one's view of a move if all we listened to are the compendium of what rottentomatoes.com reviews show how we should spend our movie dollars. I have seen this movie multiple times and catch new elements to it every time. Even if one can't totally believe the story, the characters are so believable. And I will follow many of the main and bit actors in it for their great work. Thank you, Sundance Channel, for airing it again and again! This day I'm lying in my every-few days of pain from an AIDS side effect, and I don't want sympathy -- just the empathy of this flick! Full Review »

I cheated and read the MetaCritic ratings before I rated the movie. This is a perfect example of a movie jaded film critics would hate and I cheated and read the MetaCritic ratings before I rated the movie. This is a perfect example of a movie jaded film critics would hate and naive filmgoers like me would love. I suggest reading the synopsis before watching but not reading any reviews. At that point your expectations should be quite low. Then you can sit back and enjoy a nicely written, well acted, finely directed little movie. Full Review »

I saw this movie at the Toronto Film Festival and I loved it. It might be too sappy for some people, but I found this one of the few movies I saw this movie at the Toronto Film Festival and I loved it. It might be too sappy for some people, but I found this one of the few movies about a kid dying of a terrible disease where the kid actually acted like a real kid. The teenangers appeared to act like, and be played by actual teenagers (refreshing) and the relationships between the protagonist and his friends kept the story grounded in reality. I think if you go into this movie expecting a teen sex comedy you will be disappointed, but if you enjoy watching a story that makes you ask questions, and think about life and what makes you happy, this could be a good choice. I tried to think about what I would wish for if I were a terminally ill teenager -- I probably would have wanted to see George Michael perform Kissing a Fool live.If I asked myself the same question now, I might want to visit France and consume nothing but wine and cheese for a week. At the end of the movie I will admit I was weeping like a Democrat on election day, but I didn't feel manipulated - every performance was restrained, particularly Cynthia Nixon. I loved this movie. I laughed. I cried. I laughed. I cried. Full Review »
