Finally! A movie that makes it okay for Southern California's rich kids to pull themselves out from under the combined weights of wealth, easy living, and drugged-out drunken relatives to live their dreams! Whatever the hell that's worth. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what this movie kept TRYING to say. But what it really ended up saying to me is that I too could achieve my wildest dreams if I didn't have to worry about paying my own tuition, going to work, or having relationships with actual human beings. This is the sort of movie the UN would get a kick out of watching the next time we turn down a request for foreign aid. I have no doubt there are people in this country (many of them in Orange County) who live in such a remote fantasy land. But I guarantee that for the rest of us, when we make the sacrifice to follow our dreams, the second choice won't be a career at Stanford--or anything like it. Then again, it makes things like love and friendship all the more urgent. This movie wasn't made for people like me, so forgive my not being moved by it. 3 for the good intentions--wherever they went. Expand

Was really excited to see this movie. The creative team of Freaks and Geeks and Jack Black. Sounds great right? Its not. Mike White (who wrote and directed the very original "Chuck and Buck") delivers a lame script. And the the trailer makes it seem that Jack Black is in a large portion of the movie, but he is not. The trailer even shows scenes with Black that aren't in the movie. Don't waste your time. Expand

Highly entertaining and funny. A feel good movie. Its trailer did no justice to what this movie really had to offer.

Somewhat scattershot and lamebrained, but still funny and entertaining. It's also charming and a very good video rental.

Jack Black saved this movie! One of his best roles ever. So many classic quotes, such as "She said, I'm gonna burn this mother down! And I'm like, you better not, you, you better not!,".

Orange County is a movie about a kid trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life. After the passing of one of his friends he abandons his old easy going surfer life style stereo typical of where he is from (orange county) and dedicates his life to writing. His goal was to go to Stanford and escape the dysfunctional home and town he grew up in. The movie starts out kind of stupid, but Jack Black was kind of funny in his same old roll as a fat crazy guy. The main character and his crazy day sort of reminded me of a mix of the catcher in the rye and Ferris Bueller's day off. For some reason I just enjoyed watching the movie and it seemed like a good length, with a good beginning, middle, and end. Expand

Too bad this was an MTV production. Mike White is the dramatist for godsakes. You just know his screenplay was compromised. But there is a scene in this film where the author of "Chuck & Buck" gets to bite the hand that feeds him by skewering the TRL jetset(who apparently are Stanford material) at a campus dorm party. Since they are the desired demographics, there is no way this movie could truly soar. "Orange County" is a sliver better than your garden variety teen mulch but disappointingly, "Bring it On" had more edge. This Jake Kasdan-directed film is neither freaky or geeky. It's more Britney than Joan. Expand

It could have been a great movie, but the funniness factor wasn't high. If it wasn't for Jack Black, it would not have been funny at all. The trailer was misleading, and the movie was more of a moive, instead of a comedy. If JB would have been in it more, or they just would have turned up the humor more, it could have been great.

Very funny for anyone under 30, or for those who always felt their talents were being wasted and that remaining in their hometown would slowly kill all hope of a meaningful exsitence. Colin Hanks shows he's a fresh actor worth watching, not just someone coasting on Hollywood nepotism.

Jack Black is the film's saving grace. He is able to deliver some of the most unsubtle lines like "you banged mom?" with such perfect comic timing, that it could hve you rolling over the floor laughing. The film's story about staying true to your roots is never particular interesting and the film's themes are unfortunately delivered with the same lack of subtlety as the humour, leaving a film that feels stale and obvious. I thought this movie, although not extremely funny, was entertaining. It is pretty much what I expected, and I agree with all the Jack Black comments.

Sure, the only question left in your mind is "What kind of name is Schuyler Fisk?". Sure, Jack Black and the comedy veterans are the best things about it. Sure, it even seems like you've seen it before. And sure, Colin Hanks is too similar in appearance to his father to stop images from The Money Pit, Turner & Hooch and The Burbs from drifting into your head every time he's on screen again. But there are moments, folks, when the movie it wants to be speaks out from behind the MTV muzzle. Expand

Orange County is a very well written movie that features very tasteful humor compared to that of most teen movies. The characters are interesting, though somewhat exagerated as most satirical characters ought to be. As far as teen movies go, this is probably the best one to come out for our generation. I am also very shocked that this came from an MTV studio.

If it wasn't fore Jack Black, I would of given this a 6. The story follows Sean Brumder, an aspiring writer living Orange County. After seeing how much life his family and his friends are sucking out of him, He tries to aply to Stanford university but after a mix up with the transcript, He, His girlfriend and his junkie brother set off on a road trip to tell the Dean of Admissions (played by the Hilarious Harold Ramis) that it was a mix up. Support cast is hilarious even though the script falls flat a bit. Theres even a few great cameos from Chevy Chase and Kevin Kiline, Catherine O'Hara plays the best distrought mother and Jack Black steals the show. All and all an enjoyable if dated movie. Expand

Strictly a vanity vehicle with a mess of star babies on board. That would be just fine if it didn't take us down the same old cul-de-sac. But it does, and with a vengeance.
  2. Black delivers the best line (“Do you want me to get naked and start the revolution?”), and Lithgow scores a giggle for calling his ex-wife “coyote ugly” to her face, but neither of them can disguise this lemon.
  3. It should have been a cut above the usual teen comedy. But it touches the same old bases in the same old dumb ways.
