While Patrick: Evil Awakens is a remake of a 70's horror film that I have never watched, it has that 70's horror movie vibe to it, art direction and production design wise, if it isn't for the new techno in this movie, the whole building the characters and the dark story all have that 70's & 80's horrorish style to them. On the other hand, the movie is one of the better horror movies this year, it is completely terrifying, new and makes use of the technology we have now. Despite, the movie overuses jump scares on an average 2 jump scares per minute, the movie is slow to launch, uses all these, some false and some effective jump scares to keep the audiences' attention, sometimes it succeeds but it fails for the most part. When the movie launches, creepy everywhere starts happening, generating some fresh ideas, a good use of visuals and characters. Speaking of characters, Sharni Vinson, Charles Dance and everyone pulls it with pretty good performances, Sharni Vinson (You're Next) proves of her charm and capability of mainstream genre. Patrick: Evil Awakens took me by surprise, it was creepy, eerie and had that 70's vibe to it which I love, I highly recommend Patrick.

The story in "Patrick" is a really dark, nefarious tale of mad science and extreme circumstance. "Patrick" takes on the most colorful of urban myths where cold, calculative doctors explore scientific discovery and notoriety at the behest of the helpless patient. It is the core of most nightmares surrounding hospitals, clinics and mental institutions. So "Patrick" is a story that should please any horror fan. This film offers the same evenly-paced melancholy with a bit of unease as the classic version, but the updated look and feel give more edge to the film. There isn't a big change to the story or situations in this remake generally speaking which normally would make a remake pointless and boring but with "Patrick" there is still that creepy, since of dread and chilling coldness that the original film held.
The special effects and soundtrack used in "Patrick" is tight, much like the acting, with plenty of creative gruesomeness. The kill scenes aren't as visceral as most modern horror films tend to be but they work and offer enough blood-n-guts goodness to satisfy. The suspense isn't really as strong as I would have like, especially considering it is a remake of such a notable cult classic. Maybe cause I saw the original more than once this film just seemed like a "basic" update which isn't saying anything bad about it, it just would have been nice to see the extra effort made to shock and thrill those of us who where familiar with the original-offer a modern, fresh atmosphere of fright. The soundtrack is eerie enough but still much like the shock factor it doesn't really heighten the suspenseful nature or chilling overcast of the film. That being said "Patrick" is an entertaining, creepy film that manages to breathe new life in a horror story classic.

Rich in gothic trappings and sporting a terrific central performance by Sharni Vinson (“You’re Next”) as a nurse in Patrick’s sinister sights, the pic has some wobbly dialogue and doesn’t deliver full-blown terror, but should satisfy audiences hankering for old-school genre entertainment.
It's a techno-thriller of brain-dead proportions.
For a gothic sci-fi horror, Patrick is a mediocre entertaining film, and for a telekinetic-based story, Patrick serves a different story about how telekinetic power works and it's original (eventhough it's remake 1978 a same name film), so almost as well and spooky as a previous same-genre remake film, "Carrie".

Although the second half of the film is executed very well the film suffers from a variety of flaws. In the first half of the film the score is overblown and takes away from the scenes. In fact there is rarely a second silence which manages to take away from the tension rather than adding to it as a score should. Also in the first half there is rarely a shot that lasts for over 15 seconds. The camera jumps around so much it almost made me dizzy. Also the film is riddled with plot holes that revolve largely around Patrick's powers which are never well defined. This being said the acting is great and the second half of the film had some great visual effects and some deaths that could certainly go down in horror movie history.
