  • Summary: Lazy stoner Dale Denton has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver: to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop and the city's most dangerous drug lord, he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him. And it is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they're not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia; incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. All aboard the Pineapple Express. (Sony Pictures) Collapse

As loose and playful as major studio movies get.
  2. One of the most hilarious and engaging films from producer Judd Apatow's often inconsistent comedy factory, thanks to inspired dialogue, dynamite chemistry between Rogen and Franco and perfectly pitched stoner gags (undoubtedly the result of copious research).
  3. A film that is at once elegant and sublimely silly.

Laugh for laugh, Pineapple Express is way funnier than "Superbad." It may be the funniest mainstream comedy released so far this year (not that that means much when you've got "The Love Guru" pulling down your average).

Never achieves greatness, but it has the right people in place to suggest the greatness that might have been.

The problem, dare I say it, is that the movie just ... isn't ... that ... funny.
  7. It's empty and formulaic, with plotting that's lazy even by stoner-comedy standards. Without all the yuck-o sight gags, it would be a huge bummer.

Good characters, easy following plot and just absolutely hilarious jokes. You just HAVE to love Seth Rogen and James Franco! I recommend this to people who enjoy stoner films. Expand

Funniest movie I've seen in a VERY long time. Probably my favorite put out by the Apatow gang!

Just an all around, very physical, and insane movie. I am not a big fan of Seth Rogen, but I loved this movie!

The movie showed an incredibly accurate depiction of euphoria at it's best. It was truly a hilarious adventure that actually didn't steal any of Superbad's originality. Expand

If you know nothing about this film upon entering the theater, you very likely could never imagine based on the first act how the film would go out in its final one. This is a very funny film with jokes and gags coming from every angle and all sides of the screen. The graphic violence that revs up midway through and comes to full tilt in the final portion of the film will not be enthusiastically hailed by everyone especially because this is a comedy, but stick through to the end and it all comes around. Great fun! Expand

Mildly entertaining stoner movie. Full of cliches and boring. Was waiting for the laugh out moment. Never came...

This movie was awful. Seth Rogen can't carry a movie to save his life. He plays the same character in every movie (with the exception of The 40 Year-Old Virgin). I left work early this afternoon to see this with a buddy and I felt myself fighting off boredom & sleep as this train wreck rolled on...and on...and on. And just as a point of reference, I loved (and own) Knocked Up and Superbad. Not off the Apatow bandwagon just yet, but I'm teetering. Not sure I was ever on the Rogen bandwagon. He should be behind the camera, not in front of one. Expand
