  • Summary: Player Hating: A Love Story is a feature length documentary film that delves deeply and intimately into the lives of some of society’s forgotten citizens whose desperate attempts to flee their challenged existences grow harder each day. Thirty minutes from downtown Manhattan lies a forgotteten community — Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY --- where death and destruction are as constant as breathing and represent an oppressed demographic that can be found in every major city in the United States. One of the more intimate and revealing looks at American projects ever made; it's assured and empathetic without indulging in fashionable white guilt.

A sad chronicle of absent fathers and messed-up mothers, drugs as currency and violence as the period at the end of every argument.

A young boy's nonchalant attitude toward having a friend stick a loaded gun in his mouth as well as a man's numerous knife scars courtesy of his beloved wife definitely cut through the clichés about "thug life" to capture how violence is an integral, corrosive part of inner-city life.
