Anderson distinguishes himself as the rare action director who shows us real bodies in real space in real reaction to each other, who prizes legibility over quick-cut dazzlement, who stages his fights with comic-book zeal rather than puffed-up graphic-novel miserableness.

I loved Pompeii immensely. Great cast, story, action, and visuals, and Clinton Shorter’s score is just beautiful and epic.

I liked it a lot ^^ Loved the fighting scenes and the bromance between Milo and Atticus. I have to say Kit Harington is awesome in all those fighting scenes and doesn't get enough credit for it. I thought I would hate the movie after reading so many bad reviews but I thought it was very sweet and entertaining. The only thing I didn't like was the bad guy, a bit too plain for me.

No doubt the audiences in the Coliseum would offer a thumbs-up to the scale of the destruction, though even they might have had some quibbles about the special effects, which, too often, resemble a very large pile of melting crayons.
Pompeii make tick all the necessary movie checkboxes, but its execution is unoriginal and uninspired.
Pompeii just feels like an excuse to rain digital terror on screaming extras. There’s much to see here, but little to feel, and even less to remember.
It's a spectacle, all right -- but mostly just of a lot of people, some of whom should know better, making an utter ash of themselves.
It’s impossible to find anything that grabs you in Pompeii. This lumpen adventure with a misguided romance buries anything in the disaster-flick genre that might have been a blast.
i am giving this movie a 10 because i feel it deserves a higher score. after reading a few reviews i felt like i shouldn't bother watching this but it was fairly good with amazing cgi and good acting. I may have been forced to like it because of kit harrington but even non game of thrones fans should admit he didnt do a bad job. i would recommend this to people who are interested by history and to people who enjoy watching mass destruction. id defnitley say the story wasnt the best but not terrible.

Poorly acted and thinly scripted, Pompeii has nothing more to offer than brilliantly choreographed fight sequences and the spectacle of lava and other objects being flung around in 3D.

What do you do when you put Titanic, Gladiator, all sort of disaster movies into a blender...Well, you'll get Pompeii, a film that is so utterly derivative of all films that have gone before it, but somehow made with such enthusiasm by Paul W.S. Anderson, the king of 'schlock' cinema that you'll find it somewhat enjoyable. Kudos for Kiefer Sutherland, hamming it up as the main villain. If you got nothing else to watch...

gone is the supposed epic story and legend and instead in its place Pompeii delivers a pathetic love story, and even more pathetic story that borrows heavily from gladiator.
