The higher the score, the more favorable the review. If a critic does not provide a numeric (or equivalent) grade in the review, Metacritic will calculate the grade based on the overall impression given by the review. The score listed for "all critics" is a simple average (mean) of all the individual critic grades in our database for that film.

Bob H. gave this critic a 10:
Lisa was the critic to give Rushmore the highest points, and for that alone a bow down to her. She is my breakpoint. When all the other critics are divided, I look to Lisa to show me the light. She came through with a big recommendation for Wedding Singers and is my favorite critic full stop.

Voice of Reason gave this critic a 9:
Wow, so what extremist Christian blog told everyone to register negative comments about Lisa Schwarzbaum on Metacritic? I actually find it hysterical that so many deemed this a worthwhile pursuit. For the record, Lisa Schwarzbaum remains an extremely intelligent critic and writer, and has championed many great films before they caught on. Also for the record, I am a practicing christian, and even I found Passion of the Christ to be an offensive and absurd vanity project.

Mike T. gave this critic a 10:
Lisa Schwarzbaum is the first critic I look for when a new movie is coming out. Her opinions are generally in line with my own, and she expresses herself beautifully. Her reviews are fun to read. Also, she tends to be particularly good at distinguishing between genuinely intelligent films and merely pretentious or ambitious ones. I look elsewhere when I want to read about the latest zombie/slasher flick.

Layne gave this critic a 9:
The negativity from the other comments about Lisa seem to be coming from the same arrogent, angry spirits that they accuse her of writing from. She is a gloriously poised film critic, and her use of vocabulary should not be a detractor. Sometimes you need a word that is huge to fully justify your feelings, and that's how I feel with her. She's splendid.

David B. gave this critic a 0:
Lisa has lost the meaning of profesionalism in what she does by complete unfairness, shown in the comments about the passion of the christ. Lisa did not even care to open the bible (do some research) and find out the true message of the movie; Christ suffered so much and died for us to wash away our sins. The movie is not about the hair color of the actors, Mel Gibson's past and personality, or showing any kind of hate towards anybody; truth hearts, but that doesn't represent hate (it's clear about where and how Jesus died and who killed him. But it's only why he died that really matters). The funny part is how Lisa, like many other, tries to disproove the purpose of Jesus's crucifixion by talking about how christianity should be about loving one another, not murder and torture. But actually, what Jesus did on that cross really stands for what he taught us; love your neighboor as yourself, as Jesus loves you, to the point that he sacrificed his life.

Nicholas K. gave this critic a 1:
Easily the least talented film critic in America. Schwarzbaum seems wholly incapable of making objective assessment of films, and instead rants incoherently about her personal taste for several (poorly written) paragraphs. Many film writers are criticized for having elitist sensbilities, but at least those critics agree on popular films, such as The Matrix or Spider-Man, both critical successes that Schwarzbaum disparaged in print. A quick check of her biography confirms what we all probably suspected: unlike most film critics, Schwarzbaum has no background in cinema. She was a freelance writer who reviewed everything from dance to classical music before punishing the world with her film reviews.

Lisa's comments about mel gibson's passion of the Christ just show's how off the envelope she is. the movie to date has earned $264,510,209. lisa will never never never earn this in several lifetimes with her skills as a critic. i'm sure mr gibson is laughing at her all the way to the bank.

Ovidiu A. gave this critic a 0:
Lisa is an arrogant critic. She has no apparant taste in movies. She seems to have an extremely hight level of anger and takes it out in an extremely biased manner.

[Anonymous] gave this critic a 3:
I wonder if Lisa loves anyone enough to go through what Christ went through for her in The Passion of the Christ. Passion means SUFFERING in its oldest greek form. Christians are very aware already of the torture that would be in the movie. We would be expecting it. We get what christ did for us. And if we didn't then we need this movie to remind us of what a horrible thing Christ endured and yet didn't have to. This movie is for Christians and those that need to wake up. Obviously not for the polytheistic who see it just as you did. I'm sorry for you.

Fred W. gave this critic a 0:
Bias.

Polly C. gave this critic a 2:
I was not impressed with her review of the Passion. She missed it..She should have done more research. Honestly, whether you are a christian or not you cannot sugarcoat murder and you cannot ignore what happened to Jesus. Do the research and delve into theological history and scripture. Jesus Christ gave his life for every man, woman and child regardless of race, creed or color. To say His murder was brutal would be an understatement. As hard as it maybe for some people to accept, the historical facts are true, it happened, Jesus Christ died for all of us. As blunt as she is describing Mr. Gibson's portrayal of Jesus Christ crucifixion really how else could it be described.

Cedric C. gave this critic a 0:
She waits for others critics to review movies first and than she writes her review. she has no moral conviction on anything and she plays the PC game.

Playn P. gave this critic a 0:
Lisa has an agenda, can't see forest for the dirt she is tasting face down in... rates obvious heart-pullers, misses intellegent works altogether - mistakes the pardoy scenes (for real) and misses seeing the whole arc of the picture... also misses the major perspective that diff pix are for diff audiences - yet she rates them all on her little scale --like she knows something.. critics are a waste of time, really.

Ethan K. gave this critic a 7:
She's the less eloquent of the two main Entertainment Weekly critics, but she's got great taste. She's an informed, discerning viewer, and I'll happily take her opinion on most films, but I have to agree her writing is arrogant and not particularly communicative - to remedy that, she should read more of her colleague, Owen Gleiberman's, reviews.

Phil A. gave this critic a 2:
I also feel Lisa's writing is arrogant. Not really in a humorous or entertaining way though. It sounds more like anger and condescension.

Jocelyn P. gave this critic a 7:
Generally solid, with a few minor lapses in taste ("Monkeybone" and "13th Warrior"), but at least she has the guts to go against the grain ever now and again.

Matt G. gave this critic a 0:
You know, everyone has their own opinion, and so I take movie reviews with a grain of salt. But I still expect people in print to be half-way decent at writing, and for this I give L.S. a solid F-. Lisa's reviews are badly written. She uses run-on-and-on-and-on sentences, fragmented sentences, and some strings of words that can't even be classified as sentences. To make matters worse, she uses words so far out of mainstream vocabulary that even I was reaching for a dictionary. It's a movie review, Lisa, not a scrable game. Toss in dangling participals, overuse of punctuation and lost points, and you end up with the well from which Lisa draws her prose. Good Critic? Bad Critic? I dunno... But her writing sucks.

Don M. gave this critic a 0:
She writes very arrogantly and as far as her choice of words go - it seems like shes trying to impress her 7th grade English teacher. I've sensed a lot of anger in her reviews and sometimes she seems pretty biased. She's probably best doing drama reviews but even those aren't that good. I don't believe her reviews on other movies(action, adventure, comedy) should be valued much at all.
