A sweetheart of a film, whimsical and touching. It positions itself somewhere between a slice of life and a screwball comedy.
  2. 70
Has more than enough charm to make it memorable. Hurt shows a gentleness and subtlety that's interesting to watch in this phase of his career.

For the record, Rare Birds doesn't even fly as a birder's special, since Tasseter's Sulfurious Duck is a fictional species. Now, if they'd seen a Eurasian Wigeon, then we'd be talking.

Rendered bland and frustrating by its endless attempts to make the odd odder.

  1. I am certainly NOT a devotee of the love film genre. However, this very touching, extremely funny love story was the one that put me past my bias. It is cute, touching, weird, quirky and most of all interesting. If I were you I would give this movie a chance. If you have an open mind and a sense of humor (and a love for all that is Canadian) WATCH IT!!! Expand
