Now, this is the movie I was waiting to point my finger and mock at. "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" offers nothing new; the whole plot is inspired by the video game, the story is more dumb and inane, and even the cast messed up this one. I strongly recommend to not watch this. You will regret.

An almost complete movie. A true popcorn-type movie- I really enjoyed watching this, not judging from comparison to original storyline. Special effects were quite good, acting was OKish - overall a very good movie.

Hey people, this film was not as bad as u might be led to believe. Ok, its not smart, but thats not important, its a resident evil film, what did u expect?! It does do what its supposed to though and thats entertain. Some critics seem to forget about that.

I guess all I can say is "what did you expect?" It's a sequel to the movie that follows the usual videogame movie lines, which is to say it gives people a reason to think those who play videogames are idiots. While I play videogames obsessively, I have never played Resident Evil for some reason or another. I'm guessing RE fans will like this a bit more. As it is though I thought it was good enough, and about 7 times better than the first one. This is mostly because I love zombies, and even the worst zombie movie is more fun to me than, say, goofy white robots jumping everywhere. This movie had enough interesting (though decidedly very stupid) scenes that it wasn't boring at any point. However, that doesn't mean it still wasn't, well, decidedly very stupid. You don't really need to sit through the first one, since we basically are told what happens in great detail about 5 times in this movie. So I guess what I'm saying is that its fun for videogame fans or people who like both zombies and pretty bad movies. Do I even need to mention that I'd recommend Dawn of the Dead (Either original or remake) before even thinking of this? No I think I do not. Expand

I wish people would stop going to to action movies expecting them to be Academy Awards contenders. Was this movie a little cheesy? Sure. Were the characters over the top? You bet. That's the point. The story is fine, the acting is fine and the special effects were better than fine. If you want the "English Patient", then go see a drama, if you want "Die Hard" with zombies, go see RE2, it's as simple as that. Expand

If your going to make an "R" rated movie about resident evil, don't insult your target adult audiences intelligence. what made the games fun was FEAR, not endless supplies of bullets, zombies, and eye candy. The characters in the games were slow, hard to control, and had to conserve supplies. I felt like I was watching a movie about superheroes, and not a good one at that.

Felt much cheaper and "last-minute" than the original. To make things worse when ever zombies are seen lumbering around at 2mph the camera goes blurry enough to give you seizure. This movie is mediocre at best.

Games-to-movie directors, please take note: this entire movie is how _not_ to get things right. Now I love B-horror shlock as much as the next girl, but this...this was just truly abyssmal. It's more of an F-horror movie. It's not really even a horror movie at all. Hell, it's not even a movie; it's a bunch of action sequences strung together on the spiderwebs of a near non-existent plot. For every emotion it was going for in every scene, it evoked exactly the opposite out of me and my friends: we laughed at the formerly badass Nemesis becoming all weepy-faced, booed at the Mary Sue heroine Alice's ridiculous stunts ("Ooh! People getting attacked by zombies in a church? I'll drive a motorcycle through the glass window!"), and were practically snoozing at the kind of "entertainment" that was being shoved down our throats. Think of this movie as that middle-aged overweight guy you see thundering down a suburban road with his receding combover and his new Porsche--trying hard to capture that essence of cool, yet failing so ostentatiously and miserably. You know a movie is in trouble when you have less empathy for the flesh-and-blood protagonist than you did for the pixellated ones in the videogames. Please, Paul Anderson, no more! Let the RE series retain the dignity they regained with RE4 and let the movies just die! Expand

This is NOT a movie. This is an insipid bunch of action scenes ripped off from various other (better) movies and strung together under the pretext of a plot. The heroine is ridiculous and soulless, the game characters are manhandled and pushed aside, the dialogue is laughable, and the main bad guy comes off as hilarious instead of frightening (especially since it turns out he's actually a soft-hearted nerd--it's like a ABC after-school special!). If you're a fan of the games, this movie will make you ashamed that you are--"Shaun of the Dead" was more "Resident Evil" than this "RE: Apocalypse". You'd have to have abominable taste in movies to rate this a 10 when it obviously fails in every cinematic aspect. Go watch "Dawn of the Dead" instead. Expand

I have to say, this movie was 100% better than the last, it had SOME relation to the movie at least and a couple of hiden scenes based on the games. I hate the fact that Alice, once again is back, and she lives through another stupid near death experience. I don't like the way they used Nemesis....... I CANT! Nemesis will rule all!!!! I tell ya! But in this movie, Anderson did a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE job with the placement, role, and scenes with Nemesis. The Nemesis in RE3:Nemesis, would go after S.T.A.R.S members which, hence, is the purpose of the B.O.W. But in the movie, he was commanded to take out S.T.A.R.S, not on his own will. Nemesis was also created for hand-to-hand combat, not to actually use the chaingun or Rocket Launcher, which thankfully was there. In the game, he used the RL, true, but he overly used it in the movie. Jill's role was bad too. Jill sucked... Where was Brad? Where's the plot with Nicholia (The main thing in RE3!) ?!!! Alot of things were wrong with Nemesis, the cast, and the movie itself, but alas, as a Resident Evil die-hard fan, I must go where the plot and stuff takes me. So for now, I''m happy with a 5/10, but not happy with the ending results of the movie. I will be fully happy with the movies, when Alice finally meets the ground.....in hell. Expand

Wow, I just watched this movie again and realized after it was over that I had already seen it! Seriously, that pretty much NEVER happens to me, unless the movie sucked so bad that it wasn't worth remembering which was clearly the case in this instance. (Actually, it happened to me with S.W.A.T. as well) What a completely flat and boring action movie! And both of the "tough women" in it were so damned skinny that just about any man who weighs over 150 pounds could toss them around like rag dolls anyway. Damn you Alexander Witt, what the hell were you thinking? The movie starts pretty good, although there are many stupid and exagerated scenes like Alice making her superentrance in a motorbike, and had good rythm and excelent tributes to the games, it was really cool. But here comes the terrible, unforgiveable mistake called Nemesis... I am confused, is he bad or is he good, and, what the hell? the fight between Nemesis and Alice is absolutely bad, really forced and had nothing to do with the plot. Then... what happens to Jill Valentine and Olvera? Why are they returning so cool in a van with Umbrella Tags? and Alice.... Alice, oh GOD, I almost hit my friend when I heard "the Alice program" You know Alexander... you suck. Please Resident Evil fans, if you are going to see this movie, please make sure you leave 20 min earlier if you don't want to fall in anger and wish death to Alexander and company. Expand

How many times do we have to have an unestablished motorcycle dive through a church window? The whole movie was ridiculous, everything was over the top. Jill Valentine, though she looked exactly like the character from the game, her personality didn't even resemble the real Jill Valentine. How many times do we have to see this stupid director screw up good ideas for movies with his crappy ideas. He is a plague to all horror films, I just don't understand why he keeps on making films. As a resident evil enthusiast... I was disgusted beyond compare. All I want to know is where the hell 'alice' came from. I have to start off by saying I'm a big fan of the RE games and zombie movies (28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead.) But this? This was probably the worst movie I've seen in a long time and the worst zombie movie ever. The action was boring with editing that made it impossible to tell what was going on, the story was horrendous and nothing like the games, and the blur effect when zombies came on the screen, blah. Its not even a good action movie, I can appreciate crappy action movies. I've at least somewhat enjoyed all the pointless action movies this summer: I Robot, Riddick, even AVP was better than this mess. Don't see this movie unless you're under 16 years old, thats the only way you would like this crap. Expand

I enjoyed this movie. The plot is pretty predictable, but that is really not what I came for. It had lots of action, lots of scares, and decent characters. Because of the size of the scenes and soundtrack, it was worth seeing in the theater unless you have a great theater set-up at home.

No offence, but if you didn't enjoy this movie, than odds are it wasn't made with you in mind. Most critics never enjoy movies like this, but it does its job... entertain. Personally, I like Anderson’s work (in this case, the script). I loved this movie, and how they decided to focus more on the evil Umbrella Corp, than zombies. The games last anywhere from 10 to 20 hours, the movie only had 1 and a half! What did you expect? People walking endlessly in hallways in some mansion for 10 hours, so we can get to know them better, and relate to them? That’s what Resident evil, REALLY is!(well along with wetting your pant every now and then) Is that what you want to see? Of course not, how can you sit in a theater for that long, especially with no memory card allowing you to take breaks. LOL We all know that’s impossible, movies cannot do things with the plot that books and videogames can. When you come to realize that and take the movie for what it is, you will enjoy it better. My only complaint would be the DVD. I hate fake widescreen, it seems like it was filmed with a Super 35 camera. Why not make the widescreen at least 1.85:1 instead of that super wide 2.40:1. At least both widescreen and fullscreen were included on the disc. I felt a bigger loss watching the widescreen (due to heads and feet being partly cut off ) than the fullscreen version because on the other hand the fullscreen version is actually better. The Fullscreen version isn’t a pan and scan version of the widescreen, it’s an actual almost identical version to the theater version. All in all, this movie already made more profit than the first movie, so contrary to belief; they must have actually gotten this movie right. Expand

I would have to totally agree with "A movie critic" on this one. This was a great movie that i just saw not too long ago (it's August of 2008). I had not seen these movies because of all the bad reviews i heard about from everyone. I love the games! I thought the first movie could have been better but this second one was great! It had a lot of references to the 2nd and 3rd RE games. No movie can be just like the game but i thought this one did a good enough job. As for a Zombie movie, I thought this movie was one of the best! If it wasn't for it being based on a game, i bet it would have gotten a higher score! Overall, very pleased! now i can't wait to see the 3rd one! Expand

This is the least of the live-action trilogy, but it's still a highly enjoyable and over-the-top action film. Sure some fight scenes were a bit cheesy, but the rest of the film makes up for that by having Milla Jovovich kick a great deal of ass. The Nemesis fights were pretty awesome and the film never got boring. People complained about the story, but I had no real gripes with it. This movie was awesome. Unlike the first movie, this one REALLY did the games justice. I really recommend this movie to anyone looking for a cool action/horror movie. For those wondering about unexplained questions, don't forget, there WILL be a sequal. Anyway, I thought the references to some Resident Evil games were awesome (Code Veronica intro, anyone) and there was awesome action. The characters from the games (Jill and Carlos) seemed to be a lot like their game-characters. Definately a plus. Great action, cool plot, scarry monsters....I highly recommend this movie. As for it's bad critic reviews..I have no idea what critics look for in a horror movie anymore. What was the last horror movie that got great reviews? I'm a big fan of the first Resident Evil, because it combined two of my favorite genres ? sentient technology run amok and zombies run amok ? into one mildly dumb movie with plenty more going for it than it deserved. Apocalypse, though, is an awful film shot by an awful director and written by an awful writer/director/producer who was so disgusted by his own script that he seemed to jump ship and leave it to be directed by the 2nd unit director of such masterpieces as Speed 2 and Under Siege 2. So, with all that experience under his belt, his big breakthrough film ahead of him, what does he do? Well, most notably, he shoots all the zombies in either strobe mode or on a low shutter speed, so that it looks like some kid in his second semester of film school with a Hi-8 camera shot it. Everything is murky, fight scenes tend to make no sense because they cut so much that you're just left to assume this and that is happening rather than seeing it. Not that you care what's going on, except for keeping an eye peeled for breasts. Not that the script left him much choice. The dialogue makes the video games seem like works of art and makes the first film resemble the Citizen Kane of zombie films. From first frame (a recap of the first film, for all those who couldn't follow the labyrinthian story) to the last (an ending that demands sequel and is, like the rest of the movie, only relevant so long as it's on screen. Otherwise, it falls apart as an entire 'story.'), even with the inclusion of hordes of zombie children and, as titillation for the nerd populace, topless zombie hookers. Then, of course, there is the total lack of logic, which is normally fine for a movie like this, but honestly. People driving motorcycles through church windows out of nowhere, with nothing establishing why they happen to be doing that at the exact moment their presence is required to advance the "plot." A dude who gets shot in the head, has not been bitten, turns into a zombie for no reason other than it's a moment of poetic justice, one that Paul WS Anderson surely leaned back and grinned about as he prepared to send this laughably awful film out into the world. If you're a fan of punching yourself in the face for 90 minutes, go for it. Otherwise, avoid at all costs. Expand

I love Resident Evil and i love Zombie films. I was real dissapointed by Resident Evil. i feel that they could of done much better on that film. Paul Anderson tottaly messed the film up, it could of been one hell of a movie. When i found out Anderson wrote RE:Apocalypse i had very little hope out for this movie. ESPECIALLY after witnessing the horrific AVP (which might be the worst movie i seen this year). I went to see Apocalypse with the lowest intentions whatsoever. I didnt expect much at all. I actually started to enjoy the movie pretty soon after the opening credits. I found it exciting, and entertaining. I thought Jill was hot. It was exciting through all of the movie. I enjoyed the characters...however they did mess up some of the facts from the game (Resident Evil 3). Overall i was satysfyed. the only weak parts where parts involving Alice as a damn Tomb Raider. There was nothing like that in the game...there shouldnt of been that crap in the movie. However i like the parts involving Jill fighting Umbrella workers. Something i would of loved to do in the game. Is this better then Dawn of the Dead (2004)...HELL NO! Expand

[***SPOILERS***] No, this isn't an Oscar film. if you thought it would be, you're an idiot. This is a zombie shooter film. Although it strangly has a lack of zombies. The movie wasn't great, but it was entertaining. It has a sort of low budget script feel, with a few holes here and there, and some cheesy dialogue, but watching it, I started to wonder if they actually had a bigger budget for this one than they did the first. the effects are great, and the feel of the torn up city is thurough and real. I habve to agree with others about the visual effects on the zombies. It was a little weird, and seemed uneccesary. it kinda made it seem like they were trying to hide bad cinematography or something. But over all, it was a good movie. Oh, and to Chris T. The guy who got shot in the head turned into a zombie because the city had the T-Virus in the air. Just before that guy "came back" there was a little media clip about how those who die in the city will likely come back. that's why he came back. Expand

I thought this was an awesome moving with lots of action and suspense want ing to watch more. Really good movie, for its genre i don't think you can create a great love, solid action movie. Stop putting it down.

This movie had alot of potential. I enjoyed it untill Alice once again establishes herself as the main character. Who the hell is this woman? SOMEONE SHOULD TELL PAUL ANDERSON THAT SHE DOES NOT EXIST IN ANY OF THE GAMES! She ruined the movie for me. All I could think about was hoping that she died. As far as the action goes, most of it was WAY over the top and VERY cheesy, especially when Alice blows up the Licker with her motorbike. The only positive thing about the movie in my view is the introductions of Jill Valentine, Carlos, and Nemesis. Overall the movie is a huge insult to Resident evil fans and non fans alike. Paul Anderson should stop making movies becouse all he has done is tainted some of my most favorite franchises. This includes Alien vs Predator especially. Expand

That movie is a sh.t, because there's nothing to do with the history of resident evil, that's an insult for all the fans.

This movie is outstanding. The actors are perfect models for the actual Resident evil characters. Seinna Guillory is perfect for Jill Valentine as well. The action is outstanding and the story is great. It kinda gets off the track of the Resident Evil games but who cares? It's an outstanding movie with great action. You must purchase this movie to see some real great action.

well its alittle more on track with the game series not by alot but more then the first film. its abit of a hybred between the second film and third . i do like that they added jill and the nemesis was a nice touch . theres some nice action but still the story doesnt really flow much with the game series which is dissapointing . overal it was ok and thats about it.

Well well, Resident Evil, haven't you changed. It's impressive how big an improvement Apocalypse is over the original. It isn't a great movie at all, but it isn't meant to be and it's a lot more fun than the original. My two gripes are that the CGI hasn't improved much (but it's still an awful lot better than in the original) and Nemesis didn't feature quite as heavily as I expected. The thing that made the movie was how fun it is. It doesn't try to be serious and just takes you from one action scene to the next in style, and that's what I expect from a movie like this. Expand

I think that Apocalypse is a nice idea for the title of the second movie in the series, but like the original, its also boringly dull. nothing's developed, nothing's interesting, and its a complete waist of time.

Better than the first, more intense and better action, but it leaves so many questions unanswered, or just ignores what it had previously set in stone, but if you liked the first you'll like this one, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next movie.

So. Giving a 10 strictly because this movie is underrated by almost everyone else. It is good for what it is. An action movie. If you want to space out and watch a sweet action movie, this will do it. If you're looking for a deep story you should probably move on to something else. But still sweet when you're just **** bored.

The plot made little sense and some of the action was too CG to enjoy, and even though it fell way below the standard of the first, Apocalypse is still enjoyable enough.

For the first ten minutes or so of Resident Evil: Apocalypse, you could be forgiven for thinking you're about to watch a decent film. Don't be fooled, Apocalypse is really quite awful. The budget may have increased, but the story is meandering and ridiculous, characterisation non-existent, acting wooden, and script all too often unintentionally hilarious. It breaks my heart to see decent actors like Thomas Kretschmann and Jared Harris (who's the best thing in this film by quite a way - at least he attempts to imbue his character with a degree of humanity) involved in schlock like this. It's really quite an achievement for filmmakers to imbue their characters with so little life that they start to resemble the reanimated corpses that they're fighting - almost the entire cast act like they're part of amateur dramatics society, and not a good one at that, this even goes for Milla Jovovich, with all her charisma and ability to kick your face off with her sturdy boots. The bigger budget really didn't help matters, and just gave director Alexander Witt an excuse to waste money on boring and poorly executed set pieces. Yes, there is more running, gunning and explosions than in the first film, but at least the action the first Resident Evil did have was entertaining (do you have anything to match the laser scene, Apocalypse? I think not). Unfortunately, Resident Evil: Apocalypse is the kind of film that'll stay with you for a very long time, as its sheer ineptitude and soullessness truly is the stuff of nightmares. What a soulless, lifeless, emotionless pile of drivel. Resident Evil: Apocalypse takes all the camp video game fun of the 1st film and chucks it on the cutting room floor for the zombie dogs to eat. Milla Jovovich returns as Alice to kill some more zombie ass and take some more names and she is joined by some even more stunted characters on her way in the shape of Sienna Guillory's Jill Valentine (who managed to make her even more idiotic than the video game version) and Oded Fehr's Carlos Olivera (the dud from Resident Evil 3). Although at first it tries to build a tone of dark and depressing (I mean it is the zombie apocalypse) it quickly realises its failing and turns back to camp, but throws so much of it at the viewer its like watching West Side Story and Flash Gordon all at the same time. Long story short, its terrible and a little part of your soul will be gone after watching this. you might even forget how to talk properly and have a hankering for human flesh. Expand

The Resident Evil films are the lowest form of both action and horror, and Apocalypse is not an exception -- in fact, it is the iteration that successfully destroyed any potential that the series might have had to thrill or entertain. It acts as a figurative melting pot of ideas from W.S. Anderson, who has apparently watched a couple of gameplay videos of the Resident Evil games, but has never actually played one himself. Aside from the diabolically pathetic 'plot', the movie boasts lingering and repetitive action sequences, which are unequivocally textbook in execution. Included in this tour-de-farce is a hackneyed story, flagrant slow motion, unnecessary angled camera shots, embarrassing one-liners, paper-thin characters, dreadful dialogue... okay, you get the picture -- it sucks; avoid. I didnt like the first movie at all so I was pretty suprised that I liked this movie as much as I did. The acting is better then the first film, The action scenes are a little better but still pretty generic, The plot is a lot better as well. Its a video game based film thats actually worth watching imo.

Mr. Anderson's screenplay provides a steady series of inventive action situations, and the director, Alexander Witt, makes the most of them. His work is fast, funny, smart and highly satisfying in terms of visceral impact.

It's a frantic piece of filmmaking that invests nothing in the characters and moves much too fast for its own good. But things do pick up a bit for the final third, when a story line finally arrives.
