A lot of people rate this movie really low, but seriously, if you watched the other two REs and did not like them then why would you watch this one????? Anyways, i thought it was better than the 2nd one (which was pretty lame), but was not as good as the 1st one. If you want gore, action and a thrill then you'll like it, if you're looking for horror, look elsewhere.

Milla has cemented Alice, and the film is excellent in action, lighting, stunts and effects. I could ask for nothing more. Saw it in theater, and on DVD, and it's a must-have for my collection. Portrays well, too, the gritty reality of the common person trying to survive against the corporate-political world intent on enslaving them. Well done by all involved, and I only wish there were more like it. Expand

As a film in it's own right it sucks and would be a 5 out of 10. However when viewed in context it's a no brainer pop corn zombie movie that is as silly as the 2 before it and follows the games faithfully. It's no oscart winner but I loved every second of it!!!

Wow. Going into this movie, I was hoping for the best, but expecting the worse. Ten minutes into the film, I seemed that my expectations would be right. Then, the crow scene turned it all around. This movie is slow to start, but kiscks into gear about ten minutes in. The beginning action scene is still to jerky, but the rest are very enjoyable. The biggest complaint I have is the length. At about an hour and a half, the film feels empty, but still enjoyable. I hope that I Director's Cut DVD will fix this. If you can look past the underdeveloped story, and you enjoy action films, then I strongly suggest this film. Expand

Despite a somewhat slow start, this became easily one of the best zombie movies I've ever seen. Action-packed shootouts, extremely awesome-looking zombies, some really gory scenes, an awesome setting, and some actual "character" moments really made this an awesome movie. See this one with an audience, this is a real crowd-pleaser. I was also glad to see Paul W.S. Anderson (who continues to write this one,) stick a bit closer to the games. Wesker was played to perfection, Claire (although she has a different role here,) was also much closer to her character than Jill was in the last movie, and the Tyrant was 100% perfect. (Although I kinda wish his fight scene was a little longer.) This has also got easily one of the best crow attacks I've ever seen in a movie. Completely, totally recommended. It's a blast. Some great action and some surprisingly well-shot scenes. That crow attack was easily a highlight of the series. And it was great to see this one focus a lot more on the characters and keep the goofy martial arts from the last movie to a minimum. Really great movie. Expand

I wouldn't watch this movie again. I could forget that it even exists. It offers nothing new and exciting to the Resident Evil series and has less action than the prequels. The idea that the world is now a desert because of the T-virus seems very far-fetched because it violates the simple of rule that water brings life: there were still oceans. And the fact that the movie took place in the desert areas of the US didn't help in convincing me. Expand

I have never laughed so hard in my life during a movie in theater, i had to get up and leave come back, leave, come back and then eventually have to leave due to angry fans, the scene i am talking about involves a zombie attempting to master a "fisher price" shape recognition game, the writers should be given medals for attempting to domesticate zombies with serious acting (smiling zombies = laughter). It was a good action movie if you don't mind a couple boring scenes and repetitive kills, a comedy for the ages and overall great time at the theater. Expand

Contrary to the narration that explains Earth's current state, black crows(and photogenic women) were able to survive the nuclear blast that ended life as people and animals alike knew it. "Resident Evil: Extinction" already has zombies, but they spend most of their time clamoring to invade a millitary complex. The zombies mostly just stand around in an agitated state of zombie-ness. When the undead do attack, they all emerge from the same container. If one of the pretty people had a grenade, that preemptive strike would've negated the ensuing battle. Out of desperation, the pretty people are also attacked by computer-generated undead crows. Those crows had a better strategy than the zombies. "Resident Evil: Extinction" is bad at sci-fi, bad at action, and bad at zombies. It also makes you feel bad for Milla Jovovich, who deserves a shot at a role that requires her to act. Expand

This is, by FAR, the worst of the series. A crappy beginning, a stupid zombie crow scene, and a terrible fight with "aggressive" Zombies in the ruins of Las vegas are the highlights of this film. The scene where they're trying to "domesticate" the zombie in the interrogation-style room was so terrible, I actually either fast-forward through it, or switch the TV input and watch something else for 5 minutes. And that ending...WTF? I'm coming for you guys...with 500 clones of me...you'll recognize me though, I'll be wearing my Queen of the Clones crown! Topped off by how stupid the zombies look and how the T-Virus can magically turn the entire planet into a barren wasteland. I loved the first RE, I loved the second RE even more. Now, thanks to this, I probably won't see the fourth. Expand

This film is awful. There are so many things that are bad about this film. The zombies look ridiculous, The plot is awful, it has almost no relevance to the actual games WHATSOEVER. I watched it days ago and I still can't believe how bad it is. Some of the concepts are just stupid, like a virus turning large areas (like the WHOLE UNITED STATES) into a desert, or zombie that can barely walk in one scene, but are climbing replica Eiffel towers in the next. Oh yeah, and Alice's Matrix powers (do you remember Alice from the games? I sure don't). Don't forget the scene where they are shooting at 10,000 birds with handguns. It could be nitpicking, but the film deserves it. Worst one in the trilogy, The makers should be whipped for making this piece of ####, Nuff said, SEE YA. Expand

One of the worst movie's I've seen in a long time. One of those you just start laughing at the lines cause there so bad and not something someone would say in that situation. It was just shoot em up, go to the next level/room do it again(very boring approach). Couldn't wait for it be over, I didn't care who lived or died, there was no involvement in the characters. It felt so far from the first RE. And the ending was a huge scare cause it looked like they may try to make another one. At least it couldn't be worse. Prob just jinxed it! Resident Evil films have NOTHING to do with the plotlines or characters from the games, which actually have some substance and intrigue. How they ever managed to finance no 2, let alone 3, is beyond me. Better than the previous two films in the series, Extinction turns out to be a genuinely good zombie movie. The setting is in a word, brilliant. The desert clashes with almost everything we expect from a movie of this genre, creating what feels like an original film, despite it being well-trodden ground. The action scenes are as good as ever (the much-hyped birds sequence in particular shows how far the CG has come since the first movie) and the acting is above-par, if a little bland here and there. Resident Evil: Extinction is a pretty shabby film, but a damn sight better than its predecessor, Apocalypse (though this isn't saying much - contracting leprosy is preferable to watching Apocalypse). The storyline is a dumb as ever, the characters and script dull and clunky. Giving main protagonist Alice (Milla Jovovich) destructive telekinetic powers was also a mistake - making her such an unstoppable force of nature certainly limits our ability to empathise with her. The cast's performances in general are unremarkable, but at least they actually look like professional actors this time round rather than the highschool drama club-quality performances in Apocalypse. The blatant rip-off of The Birds (though the filmmakers will probably claim that it's a loving tribute) where zombie crows attack is also a new low for the series. What Extinction does have going for it is some pretty entertaining action sequences, creative and brutal zombie kills, and Milla Jovovich wielding a pair of very big knives. Russell Mulcahy (of highlander fame) is also probably the most talented director who's worked on the Resident Evil series thus far - his direction is perfectly competent, with the odd pleasing flourish. Resident Evil: Extinction is a mildly diverting post-apocalyptic film with zombies, action and simplistic, good-looking characters. Should you expect any more from a film like this? Probably not. Does it deliver any more than this? No. Expand

Sure Resident Evil Extinction isn’t as bad as the 2nd instalment, Resident Evil Apocalypse but it comes pretty darn close with the same unavoidable problems from awful scripting to terrible plot. The first problem is that it starts with a scene so remarkably identical to a scene in the first film that you are initially thrown back as you try to understand why you are being shown it again. Not only is the answer and payoff for this scene redundant but its just so painfully dull. Then the film starts for real with the resident evil franchise deciding it wants to explore the idea of a zombie western. At first the aesthetics and landscapes are cool as they are totally unexpected but as soon as we are introduced to the characters we are going to be following any sense of ingenuity and imagination is gone as we are still left with a bunch of half developed character stereotypes and some unfortunate hangers on from the previous instalments (Oded Fehr I’m looking at you). Milla Jovovich does her best to look like she doesn’t know the film is bad but ultimately fails. Extinction continues the idea of Umbrella as the main villain but in a story that spans a huge landscape it doesn’t really work. At least in Apocalypse (yes I am unfortunately about to give it a compliment) the idea of Umbrella as the villain worked because they were actually there, they had a presence, they weren’t hiding in the ground in a base that resembles a large hive (If you’re gonna copy other films try not to copy previous instalments of YOUR OWN FRANCHISE). Some of the action works better than in Apocalypse mainly because the film isn’t set at night and the increased light helps the visuals but overall it just seems like more of the same with a story so incredibly unimaginative and convoluted that all you can do is sit and laugh and hope that somehow, just somehow your DVD player breaks.
