  • Summary: Samson, a cheeky 15-year-old boy, and Delilah live in an isolated Aboriginal community in the Central Australian desert. Amongst a tiny collection of houses, everything here happens in a cycle. Day in and day out - nothing changes, everything stays the same and no one seems to care. When tragedy strikes they turn their backs on home and embark on a journey of survival. The two teenagers soon discover that life outside the community can be cruel.     Viewers may not realize how far they've been pulled in until the movie ends, and they might feel a sense of loss that it can't keep going just a little while longer.

    And by the time Thornton has deftly flipped the script regarding the titular Biblical parable's misogyny, you'll feel as if Aussie cinema has indeed discovered its next great voice.

    How do you know you're looking at a pretty good piece of filmmaking? When the director and actors can make you care about the central characters even though they exchange almost no dialogue.

    This movie is brilliant. It is one of the bleakest films I have ever seen. By focusing on the touching story of two young Aborigines it successfully shows their harsh reality. Warwick Thornton does a magnificent job in not only bringing attention to the Indigenous issue but also in telling a beautiful love story. I only hope that more films and art like this can have a positive impact on some of the issues that this movie brings into focus.… Expand

    This is a magnificent movie all around. The scarce dialogue, cinematography but specially the 2 young leads are ... inspiring, breathtaking, relentless. There is a moment, a single instant that spoke to me when in a car's tape recorder Rocio Durcal is playing Juan Gabriel (Spanish diva + Mexican divo)... the awkward perfection of this sound insert is, for me, the perfect metaphor of the surprising stuff this movie is made of… Expand
