Save Yourselves! didn’t have the budget to pull off its ambitiously bizarre and essentially unresolved ending (which might not have been satisfying even had it been fully realized—it’s really way out there, quite literally), but it gets the small things just right, and that’s far more important.
A diversion like Save Yourselves! might just save your week.

Do not be fooled by the sci-fi trimmings of this film. Despite its light and amiable manner, it’s a sort of “Deliverance” for the digital age, deriding the ability of tame souls, at a supposedly advanced stage of civilization, to cope with the unknown.
Save Yourselves! was completed well before the pandemic hit—it played at Sundance in January — but it’s one of those works that has magically landed at the right time. It takes itself just seriously enough, but not too seriously.
Save Yourselves! is a small movie about small people doing small things in the face of a (mostly unseen) big event. If it plays things a little too safe at times, that’s probably because it has to. And besides, it’s charming enough that you may not notice, or care.
For the most part it manages an adept balance between satire, sincerity and sheer silliness that’s ultimately winning.
The film fails to use its millennial characters to investigate contemporary attitudes about the possibility of world annihilation.
I thought the dynamic between the leading couple was really adorable. Yes, they are a little device addicted, but they also care about each other and treat each other well. They are both a little neurotic without it being overbearing, and the various touches of romance and affection throughout especially the first part really work for me. The light alien horror element was done reasonably well, although that was secondary to the character relationships for me. This is *not* an incisive social commentary, but it is a fun movie.

Há uma tentativa de emular um clima claustrofóbico aqui quando o casal parte para uma aventura numa casa de campo, emesmo que o texto de fato funcione em sua eloquência inicial com boas tiradas e piadas críticas a favor do minimalismo, parece que todo o roteiro não sabe o que fazer.
Assim, entram em cenas as bizarrices, mas é tão letárgico e indeciso sobre suas pretensões, que soa chato, um porre mesmo. Aquele porco espinho, além de tudo, ficou cafona.
Resta então apostar no carisma do casal e torcer por eles, mas os dois juntos também não funciona. Ainda bem que o filme tem uma locação adequada para sentir um pouco de tensão, e também é bem curtinho, o que não nos deixa sofrer tanto.

John Reynolds and Sunita Mani play a hip Brooklyn couple who are typically attached to their devices. In an attempt to reconnect with each other, they disconnect from the world to spend a weekend in an isolated cabin. While there, the planet endures an alien invasion that eventually involves them. The beginning of the movie effectively portrays the self-indulgent narcissism of this hipster culture along with their reliance on social media. However, when it’s time for the extraterrestrial encounters, there’s little suspense and the comic moments are slight…a lot more distressed ranting than action. Overall, this is a low-budget indie with an promising concept and admirable intentions that aren’t always achieved.

I think before production at least two guys were drugged by aliens. The screen writer and director. But they missed their epinephrine shot.

What's been billed as a hip comedy about a millennial couple trying to personally reconnect with one another in the midst of an alien invasion they know nothing about may be incisive in its social commentary, but it's virtually devoid of laughs (so where is the comedy?). This overly talky, slowly paced, hyper-analytical slog is about as entertaining as a root canal. And the real shame here is that this could have been an excellent premise for being both observant and funny. "Save Yourselves!" may indeed be an appropriate title, but mainly as an admonition to would-be viewers to stay away and save themselves the price of admission.
