This weirdly off-kilter suspenser goes well beyond the usual police procedural or killer-on-a-rampage yarn due to a fine script, striking craftsmanship and a masterful performance by Morgan Freeman.
  2. It's intriguing, appalling, savvy, nasty, grossly unsettling -- you may not like what you see, but you'll definitely be affected by the sight.
  3. One can already tell that this film is on to something special during the opening credits.

A decidedly medieval enterprise, darker in text and tone than a Gothic cathedral by the light of the moon.
  5. Noticeable skill has gone into the making of Seven, but it's hard to take much pleasure in that.

Director David Fincher shovels on more gloom than even the serial killer genre can sustain in the murkily moody, but self-defeating, Seven.
  7. Not even bags of body parts, a bitten-off tongue or a man forced to cut off a pound of his own flesh keep it from being dull. [22 September 1995, p. C18]

This movie had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. The background music created a great atmosphere of suspense and dread. The acting was top notch, the story was creepy but incredibly interesting. I seriously have no complaints. Expand

After seeing se7en I was blown away, it was mesmerizing and grotesque. I was very sad with the ending but I would admit I would do the same thing. It was very good at building tension and being suspenseful. The crime scenes were sick and made complete sense with the deadly sin it was supposed to be associated with. The dialogue was terrific with funny lines everytime detective somerset and detective mills talked to one another. A great step up from Alien 3 from director David Fincher. A must see. Be cautious to watch with a tight christian or someone who throws up for seeing something gruesome. Expand

Seven is a classic thriller that has clever acting, intense action and an intricate, seamless plot.

A pair of homicide detectives (Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman) are assigned a case involving a series of horrific murders based on the seven deadly sins and face a race against time to catch the killer before he can complete his plan.

Seven is not one for the squeamish; director David Fincher not holding anything back when showing the victims of the gruesome crimes, but that doesn't prevent the film from creating a gripping narrative. Pitt and Freeman are excellent as always and help to create and fantastic atmosphere that builds to create a shocking finale. One of the cleverest thrillers of the last twenty years Se7en would make an excellent addition to any movie collection.

"Se7en" is a disturbing movie because of everything the movie pertains. From powerful performances by Freeman and Pitt to the creepy Spacey, the dialogue was also a intelligently written one too. Although the story may be hard to follow or understand, "Se7en" is a masterpiece, the godfather of all crime thrillers. Expand

"Seven" is a highly entertaining and intense film with a great plot and a creepy tone. It kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the film, and many scenes were quite shocking. However, I felt the ending to be kind of weak, and I felt the characters were unlikable. It's not a perfect movie, but "Seven" is a very morbid, unpredictable., and intense thriller Expand
