The movie was decent until it decided to become FIGHT CLUB about 20-minutes before the end, and then quickly shifted into MEMENTO meets THE SHINING just to add to that massive number of Stephen King books turned into lousy films. You know its bad when Johnny Depp's THE ASTRONAUTS WIFE was actually better. Sadly enough the movie couldn't be like the book where you can just put it away once it gets bad, with the movie you want your 98 minutes back, but the suspense is so intense you actually want to see just how terrible it can actually get and it sure does! I loved this movie. The plot was great, and the suspense was unbelievable. Johnny Depp and Turturro played their characters very well. Though the ending wasn't anything new, it was certainly exciting, spine-tingling, and it was acted out perfectly. I give SECRET WINDOW two thumbs up!

I luv this movie so much! Johnny Depp is as hot as-- if not hotter than --always! He kept the end suspenseful to me. This movie kept me laughing through the end. It is the best movie since Pirates! I don't know what else to say except, this movie ROCKS!

If you ask me, the best Stephen King adaptation was Kubrick's 'The Shining'. But wat made it good was Kubrick's masterful visual talent accompanied by a perfect and scary score. When the opening credits say that 'Secret Window' is based on a Stephen King's book, I lost a lot of my interest... Still... After wachting the first few minutes of 'Secret Window', My good hopes returned. The movie has a mysterious setting, often a good musical score and Depp and his co-actors give very good preformances. (especially the creepy Turturro) The tension keeps building and buiding, your expectations rise... But then, after more then 70 minutes into the movie, it takes an unexpected turn (in the wrong direction). It takes a really easy and way out, wich is way far from original. If this movie was made 10 years ago, it would be suprising and new! But after movies like 'Fight Club', 'Primal Fear' and more recently 'Identity', it's a big blow and pretty much ruins the all the excitement. Many endings slipped my mind during the first hour, but nothing like that. One of the last lines of the movie: "The only thing that matters is the ending. it's the most important part of the story, the ending. This one is really good. This one's perfect!" Was that a joke, just to rub things in? Expand

This movie is the best movie since Radio. Johnny Depp had an outstanding preformence. I loved every second of it. Every time you sit down to watch it, it gets better and better. It will keep you guessing until the end....and you will still be wrong...

I quite enjoyed the film. It was an entertaining enough waste of time, much like Conan's Frankenstein. Worth the price of admission just for Depp's as always brilliant performance. The man can make the most trivial and boring of activities exciting. I would watch him read the back of a cereal box. Go see it.

You wanna hear a secret?...come closer....closer...."this film sucks" avoid every stephen king novel to film adaptations except kubricks "the shining" and shawshank redemption (forgot the director) john depp usually makes good decisions in film selections, somehow either he was too high or low in order to accept this script. for whatever reason he took it and by doing so had to act in it from begining to end. i am saying this becasue he seems excited and talented in some scenes (probably earlier shot ones) and he seems tired and not caring in the others. these changes in his acting occur not because his on screen persona demands it...becasue simply put; he is bored!. the audience can understand mr. depp's boredom as they also share the same feelings through the film. boring is a boredom does as forest gump would put it. john turturo,.also is having a hard time to stay awake. the coen brothers did something to this guy way back in the barton fink days, he is almost the same guy from that moment on in every single film he acts in, did the coen brothers make john turturo from scrap fiat and linguini parts?...is he an android?...should i copyright this idea and call depp to act in it?... unlike the makers of this film, i am not that cruel. I got sucked into watching this movie because of all the "plot twists and suspense" even though the trailers looked like a lame movie from the get go. This "twist" while I won't give it away has been DONE and DONE before! Also note the next time you take a dump, you will be in violation of copyrights for this movie.

Not very satisfying. Johnny Depp is good in the lead role, but the whole enterprise seemed flat to me. Turturro was effectively menacing, but I didn't think the director maintained the tension. The ending seemed anti-climactic to say the least.

How can you not like this film? I have scanned through a few of the reviews and they are all like, a bit of the plot is missed out which doesn't explain this... and whatever, but can't you just watch a film and not care about how it works, just enjoy it? I found this one of the most disturbing but also one of the best films I have seen in a long time. I didn't have to concentrate on it to understand it, the cinemotography is good, and the acting is just excellent, especially from Johnny Depp. Expand

The film starts out great, but as it progresses it loses steam. It becomes predictable and I found the ending a let down. Still, it has it's moments and Johnny Depp is great as always.

If you like Johnny Depp, you'll like this film. However, if you have any aversion to him whatsoever, skip this film. It's the same old same old Depp, with his oh so artsy, weird, and just plain odd style of acting that makes me want to vomit. The only saving grace of this adapted Stephen King short is the drop dead hilariously bad southern accent sported by John Turturro.

The only reason I am giving this turkey a higher rating than it deserves, is because Johnny Depp is amazing. I'm sorry, but he just is. The complete and utter dedication, focus, and personality he brings to each role (in good or bad movies) is unique to say the least. No matter how bad the material, he is probably (along with Sean Penn) the most watchable and interesting American actor today. Now onto the film...what can I say. The film is based on a short story and has the compact chronology and decompressed characterizations of a short story. Essentially David Koepp takes the story and brings it to the screen, adding no flavor or extra trim yet not subtracting either. If you like King, Depp or are a fan of the original story, you may enjoy it. I saw it at a sold-out screening this morning and the audience booed during the credits. You be the judge. Expand

[***SPOILER***] This movie bored me in the beginning and got mildy suspenseful in the middle. The most interesting character in the first half of the movie, was Chico, the dog, and then they had to kill him off. My biggest gripe, though, was the huge scientific gaffe. Johnny Depp's character supposedly formed a Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly called Multiple Personality Disorder) due to witnessing his wife's infidelity with her lover and then wanting, but failing, to kill the two. I'm a clinical psychologist, and I can tell you that that disorder would not result from the events that happned in the movie, traumatic though they were (this disorder is very rare and only seen in cases where extreme trauma occurred IN CHILDHOOD). It would have taken very little research to uncover this very important fact. I guess there wouldn't have been any movie at all, then, though, would there? Expand

Well worth seeing for Depp's performance alone. Most of the movie is VERY well done. Suspenseful, scenes well set up, good direction, some good charcter actores. Unfortunately the ending does not do justice to the bulk of the movie, but still a movie that's very entertaining. Go see it!

I really liked this movie the first time I saw it when it was IDENTITY, or was it MOMENTO, or was it FIGHT CLUB - anyway, nothing really new here. The part at the end with the wife reminded me too much of The Shining. If this is at all like the book than Stephen King is running out of ideas. A friend of mine told me that parts of it were funny, I didn't get any of the jokes. I thought this was supposed to be a thriller, it wasn't suspenseful. It was just NOTHING! Expand

A minor novella by Stephen King adapted into an even more minor screenplay, Secret Window is worth the price of admission for Johnny Depp's mesmerizing performance as a writer slowly (and literally) falling apart at the seams.

The biggest case of moviegoer's buyer's remorse I've encountered so far this year. Two cheers for Johnny Depp's much-needed quirkinesses (with an extra huzzah for John Turturro's), but that's pretty much all that this perfunctory suspenser has going for it, and even Depp's curlicues seemed fresher in last year's Pirates of the Caribbean and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Since the movie is so singlemindedly plot-driven, normally good actors in the supporting roles, such as Timothy Hutton and The Cooler's impressive Maria Bello, end up just being part of the woodwork. The surprise ending DID fool me, as I'm sure it did lots of moviegoers who hadn't read Stephen King's original story--but M. Night Shyamalyan can do the same kind of thing in his sleep, and his movies are so teeming with nuance and detail that they often compel second viewings from audiences who want another chance to catch all the clues, hints and red herrings. The only thing Secret Window compels, I'm afraid, is a shrug. In short, it plays like an overlong, overstuffed feature-length version of a half-hour Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock Presents TV episode...except, of course, that 1950s and 1960s TV Standards and Practices would never have permitted the ending. Do we really need another split-personality movie? The most confusing part about this one is why they chose a forgettable piece from one of Stephen King's short-story collections, as opposed to one of his more memorable pieces. It's just under 2 hours of boredom, so, stay away if you can.

It has been a very long time where a "scarey" movie, actually scared me. So many movies out there like the grudge and ghost ship...give me a break! the only scarey part of the horror movies of today is that people waste their money to go see it. This movie truly surprised me. I heard so many bad things about it and i just happened to see it on tv without knowing what it was until it was too late(i was interested in it by then) What makes this so bad in peoples eyes today is because most people are full of crap when it comes to scarey movies. "like, omg! the ring was so TOTALLY scarey" these are the people who dont understand what makes a good movie Expand

This is Johnny Depp doing Golum and the Green Goblin, if you know what I mean. You?ve seen this all before. I won't make references to any more films otherwise that will totally give it away. For a real kick-ass film, go see Spartan! Winnipegger Len Cariou shows up as the Sheriff and does his best Andy Griffith. Avoid at all costs!

Secret Window is almost worth seeing for his characteristically assured performance alone, but Koepp sabotages Depp and his surroundings with an ending so atrocious, it callously betrays everything that came before it.
  2. Doesn't keep any secrets but an open one: that Johnny Depp is on a roll, and actor's block is definitely not his problem.

The resourceful actor (Depp) invigorates Secret Window with a playful personality and wryly humorous aplomb not front-and-center in the script, making the psycho-suspenser more compelling than it might otherwise have been.
