I went into this movie wanting it to be amazing, but unfortunately it was the complete opposite. Will Smith and Rosario Dawson gave wonderful performances, but the movie took way too long for anything to happen. Seven Pounds was a "2 hour don't text and drive commercial".

Seven Pounds has the most predictable plot. Yes, i did give the movie a chance, i wanted to see seven pounds become a phenomen. I wanted to see what the director was thriving for, what he wanted to bring to the film, instead seven pounds delievered a wasted movie. It's sad, but true to say that some movies aren't as good as they sound. I think they were also trying to hard to make it a superior film, instead of following the natural flow, and unpredictable story; it turned out to be a predictable movie, that had no secrets. Expand

Way way way too long, some major editing would have prevented the stretches of boredom. Too slow moving. It's very sincere, but it also fails to convince. The acting is stiff and lacking enthusiasm. Good score.

Well, I'll keep it brief as even thinking about this movie makes me depressed. The whole story was pretty far-fetched and it was just too depressing. Although it is a dark film I think that making every scene as depressing as the last was just too much for any normal person to bear. Ben Thomas is a **** protagonist as he is basically a douche. The writers could have made him a really good character but in the end they just made him hateful and bitter, meaning that we don't care about his problems. I understand that he has to be depressing to a certain level but this was unbearable. The 4 that I gave was for Will Smith's acting and an almost convincing death scene. ----By the way, the whole box jellyfish thing was stupid. It was put in the film because he thought they were beautiful as a child. Not the best of references. Why not use a shotgun or jump of a cliff? His house was near the sea! Why not take a plunge instead of using the most ridiculous means of suicide in movie history? Expand

well i would like to have as much of inteligence as you guys have. all of those who said it was way too predictable. Will Smith was awesome in this movie as well as Woody Harrelson and Rosario is adorable! It was certainly better than the Changeling and almost as good as the Green Mile. There are not many movies i am willing to see more times but i have seen this one three times already!

There is no reason for this movie to be rated so poorly. I think that the main reason for this is because of slowly everything plays out, and how little the viewer knows even half way through the film. I find movies more interesting when you have to find out what is happening and I don't want everything to be so straight forward. I found the acting to be brilliant, the story to be played out well, and the movie to be intriguing and emotional as well. I would recommend it to anyone! Expand

Nice Emotional piece. Great performances by Will Smith and Rosario Dawson. Same Director as The Pursuit of Happyness. Gabriele Muccino. Sometimes I think critics pan movies if they are not shot in Italy and about a bicycle.

Absurd, wretched film. Really: If a man were that shattered about a car accident he caused, and hated himself that much (enough to torture himself with bone marrow donation without anesthetic, and suicide by one of the most agonizing ways to die), why would he also feel that he had the moral authority to determine who "deserves" his body parts? Flawed and a little icky. I felt like I';d watched some kind of snuff porn. Blech. Also: does anyone actually think Rosario Dawson is any good? She's a blank slate in everything I see her in. Pretty, yes. Pretty boring! Expand

The most breathtaking, intense and mindnumbing drama i've seen ever. The screenplay, the script, everything brought to perfection in what i would say, the best drama movie of this decade. Do not, i repeat, do not care about what the critics say, they are always in opposition with the usual, amateur eye.

This movie was a pathetic attempt to engage your sympathies as you watched a disjointed rendition of a woeful tale about a man who wants to give up 7 pounds of his toxically poisoned flesh to deserving recipients. What a load of BS!

I actually found it quite entertaining, and solemnly profound. A lot of people will say it is manipulative because of what it boils down to at its conclusion, but I would argue the acts considered "manipulative" by some are indeed powerful works. Ask yourself, would YOU do something like that for someone else. If it takes you longer than it takes to read this comment to answer, then I can understand why you wouldn't like this movie. Expand

I don't know how people who watched this movie can give it a bad rating. It is probably the best movie in recent years (have I ever seen a better one?). Yes, the story may seem far-fetched, but it is told in such an incredible manner, that you won't know until the end. My girlfriend was crying a lot during the second half of the movie, and I was trying hard to keep my tears from flowing and comfort her. Will Smith and, especially Rosario Dawson, are just amazing to watch, but that's not the main point. I am no Will Smith fan, but after seeing this movie I have to admit he is a great actor. The main point is idea of this movie, that is only fully revealed in the end (if you're good at guessing movie plots, you might know around the middle, not earlier). Amazing, amazing, amazing! A movie about the human spirit and the infirmity of life. Expand

I am a Will Smith fan through and through, but this movie does not work at all. Mr. Smith appears to be angling for an awards nod, since he is, in every scene, welling up with some emotion (mainly tears he appears to be fighting to hold back). The film is a one-trick pony that is simply frustrating after the trick is figured out-- which, honestly, is about 30 seconds into the film. Will Smith is great actor to watch, but he and this threadbare concept movie are simply trying too hard to be "significant." Maybe its time to attack a story with meat on its bones or do an outright comedy to exhibit your ample charm again, Mr. Smith. Leave the over-emotional melodrama to the daytime TV guys and gals. Will Smith's quest for an Oscar will never be fulfilled with sentimental drivel like Seven Pounds, an unbelievably bad movie that's 80% close-ups of Mr. Smith's anguished face and the line "I can't tell you." Do me a favor Will - don't make a sequel for this turkey - Hancock II will be pushing your luck as it is!

This movie was excellent!!! The story line was intriguing and plot was phenomenal. I enjoying making attempts to solve the ending and purpose of a film before it is over, but I had noway of knowing the ending in this movie. However, when it was finally revealed I was blown away. Many of the reviews given concerning this movie are way off in my opinion. If you like blood, gore, shoot ';em ups, and special effect movies then your rating my be like all the others. However, there are still many of us out there who like to "think" when watching a film and actually get into the twists that the writer and director are striving to provide. Expand

This movie was muddled in parts. Maybe they didnt watch it back and threw it all together like i often do with a coursework im rushing to hand in. I saw the "twist" coming a long way before the end. But despite all of this, ii came out of the cinema and i thought, "that was a great film." I havent been able to stop thinking about parts of it since. Will Smith excelled as always, and Woody Harrellson is making a name for himself playing terrific bit parts, i get the feeling theres a big role for him around the corner. Its a very good idea and it was so sad. Im not too sure why its got so much bad press. Sure its "corny", it seems a lot of the press dont like that nowadays, but a lot of people still do. Id definitely recommend Seven Pounds to anyone. Expand

This is exactly why I believe someone should critique the critics. Not one of these movie reviews gave a credible basis on why they rated the movie so low. 1. The movie is too dark. My response - go watch Meet the Spartans. 2. The ending will not sit well with religious sects. My response - Every movie has elements that we don't agree with based on principle. If I followed that logic, I could never watch another action movie ever again because they have guns and they kill each other. 3. The plot is implausible. My response - A broken man who commits suicide and wanted his remains to go to the right people, seems pretty plausible to me. Expand

I don't get the most acclaimed critics... I am very cinical when it comes to movies and I hate bla bla love bla bla romance. BUT... this is not about it. This is WAY beyound our idea of a movie about love and romance. Maybe that's why there are these terrible reviews - in a world full of copied.past scripts and never-ending possibilities with new technology, thus creating virtual (alternative) realities, I think people are losing the real sense of A movie. I can relate so much about it... It is NOT a film without grip of reality - I LIVE a reality very near to this one and it really blew my mind. Of course the movie is "elongated". You have to feel it - unlike other common movies about an alien adventure where you except frames to fly around like crazy. The critics MUST take a break from this technology-based imagery we're living in so that we can appreciate, again, the beauty of thinking and living - experiencing. One of my favorite movies ever - and I don't remember a single one I like with feelings of courage or redemption or whatever. The casting is great and Oh Boy Will Smith gives it all. WELL DONE Expand

I don't understand why this movie got such bad reviews. It is extremely deep and provokes thought and emotion in a way I've never seen any other movie do. The acting and story are both incredible, along with the way it was filmed. You can't approach this movie with a normal "I want to be entertained" attitude... it is something much more than that and anyone who has anything bad to say about this movie simply doesn't understand that and should get back to their flashy Bruckheimer flick. I guess it might have actually rated a 8 based on what could be done better, but "I'm" personally giving it a 10 because I loved it so much. It was a very emotional movie, and gave a unique look into a different kind of story. I get why people say it was predictable, as it's not too hard to guess if you're trying to, but still it's a very touching story, and on the other hand I have no idea how anyone could say it's "fake" feeling. This movie was much better than I thought it was going to be based on reviews. The previews made it look good, but media reviews were lackluster. Hopefully no one will have told you the twist before seeing the film or it's kind of a waste. It's a very slow progressing film and you try to figure out what is going on. Just stick with it and keep learning, in the end you will find out the twist and it will get you in your gut. It really made me think about life and how we live each day. What a great movie. The poor reviews this movie has been getting is a sham. A beautiful movie that has all the emotion and brilliance of any classic. Smith is fantastic as Ben and doesn't deserve the criticism he is receiving for this movie. I don't want to give away the plot but the end of this movie is so gritty and intense it almost reduced me to tears. The score and music throughout this film is great, a mix of heartfelt ballads and upbeat tunes give this movie a character that really appealed to me. Smith may not be his witty best in this movie but shows another side to his acting abilities and gives a standout performance in the movie. A great movie with a great ending! Expand

I have to say that this film is not great but it is not absolutely terrible. I thought that smith and Dawson did a good job. It is very emotional, espectionally the end. At the same time though it can be a little boring. Even though the plot is abouthim helping seven people, you don't actually see him helping seven people. The main focus is on Rosario Dawson with a small part for Woody Harrelson and few mentions to some other people he helped. By the end I was not overall satisfied. I was so surprised to see such low metacritic reviews. I thought it was an incredibly sincere deep movie. Smith portrayed well the depth of self - hatred man can fall to. To say it was manipulative is stupid - you're afraid of your own emotions if you're not willing to explore them. That's like walking out of The Dark Knight offended they tried to give you a sensory experience that would defy reality. Not a hollywood happy ending, but deep. Redemption is a powerful theme, but not a popular one apparently. Expand

Ben(Will Smith) and the names, the fatal victims of a horrific car accident, they sting him like a box jellyfish. He recites the names after berating a beef salesman, a blind beef salesman; he recites the names as a preventive measure against tears. Surely, this is a flashback, back when Ben was an ass**** who worked for an astronautical company. We're not sure because "Seven Pounds" tells its story non-linearly; it's a good thing, too, that the movie throws a little heavy lifting our way, because a straightforward rendering would have yielded this fundamental question from the audience a lot sooner: "Why doesn't Ben help the families of the victims instead of these complete strangers?" No. Ben's berating of the blind beef salesman is not a flashback. He's the subject of a George Harrison-penned "Revolver" track now. The slumming MIT grad likes to test people whom the IRS red-flagged as potential tax-cheats, then the depressed and self-righteous civil servant decides to go ahead with the audit, or deems them worthy of a six-month pardon. The accident transformed Ben. While his best friend hits golf balls, the taxman opts for a loftier hobby: philanthropy. He's a pushover for tax cheats with physical abonomalies and ailments. Emily(Rosario Dawson) has a heart defect, which leads "Seven Pounds" to a literal interpretation of the old stand-by lyric about love and beneficience. In one extended scene, where "Seven Pounds" won me over, Ben eats Emily's eggplant parmesan, then hums the melody to Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You". The taxman knows the music, but he doesn't know the words. After they make love, the words come to Ben. And suddenly he knows what to do with his heart. Despite the inanity of the story's basic premise, this tearjerker gets one thing right, and it has nothing to do with box jellyfish. Expand

Ok----WOW! Generally, I don’t speak my mind on a public form about a movie I’ve seen, but my GOD, I have to inform you about the trauma I endured and save 2hrs of your life---Go basket weaving, read your favorite book, or look at a WALL! Because of this movie, I now realize I do the following while watching a movie as bad as this one: I sigh out-loud, ask for forgiveness multiple times, ask what have I done to deserve this, and I had the strange desire to smash my head against the EMPTY seat in front of me to render me unconscious. With that being said, Oprah and Mr. Smith gabbed on about how LIFE changing this film was going to be, and you know what---it wasn’t. The film dragged on and on and on and on and on and on. Now imagine me writing more about on and on and on and on and on and on----aren’t you saying “ENOUGH ALREADY”? Know my pain---ahahahhhhaaa!! To end with, I really am SHOCKED Oprah would promote this film the way she did---suicide---really? Come on man. Expand

Predictable, long-winded, and ultimately silly. I never felt connected to the characters, or felt their motivation. The end plot twist was obvious a half hour into the movie, and what was supposed to be an act of heroism was so sadly misguided I simply could not grasp how it could be represented as a moral (sentimental?) triumph. The guy clearly needed therapy, not vivisection.

I love Will Smith. Having said that a bad movie is a bad movie and that is what Seven Pounds is. C'mon Will do the type of movies your audiences love. Not sappy stupid movies that meander along at a snails pace. Once you think you are bigger than your audience your career is officially over. Just ask Jim Carrey.

The title "Seven Pounds" refers to the Shakespearean pound-of-flesh metaphor, meaning a figurative debt that needs to be paid back (the death of seven people in a car crash). I loved this movie... highly recommend it for something who is truly a "good person" and can use their brain to actually watch the movie.

This movie is a good example of when critics go bad. They seem to hate crying in theaters, (i.e. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Reign over Me, The Pursuit of Happyness) and they really do not like Will Smith. By no means is this movie great, but it is certainly worthy of some praise. It is a very powerful story, it is not about how "obvious" you think the outcome is, but how we get to that outcome. Smith's performance is heartbreaking and excellant. This movie is just generally underrated. Expand

I think all the high ratings are from Will Smith family members haha, what a crappy movie. How many people could have been fed with his 20 million dollar paycheck? Ahh...the horror of it all.

I am thrilled that I didn't read the critic's reviews before I saw this movie." I WOULD NEVER HAVE GONE". I don't care how sappy and contrived, they thought it was. To me, to see a person lliterally give of himself, so "Good People" can continue on is more than exceptional. It must be seen, despite the critics opinions!!!!

What the heck was Oprah thinking?! I feel DUPED! This movie was so bad I could have gnawed off my arm. There was NOTHING redeeming about it. Its only message: Don't text and drive. Shame on you, Oprah, for stumping for your friends (Will Smith) dishonestly.

Glad I saw it before looking up the ratings. At first I felt it selfish that he wanted to take his life because of his loss. As the story unfolded, he paid a price not many would be willing to pay. His character handled a very selfish act in a very unselfish way. Really, whether you liked the movie or not, it will leave you thinking twice about sending texting while driving.

I think the critics are dead wrong. If you go into the movie without knowing a thing about it, then it's a good movie. Will Smith is great as always, and the supporting actors and actresses have good performances as well. Yes, it can seem disconnected at times, but it all comes together at the end. One of the good things about this movie is trying to plug things in after you've watched it. It keeps you thinking about the movie for a long time after you've watched it, and I think that's the sign of a great movie. Expand

I loved this movie. It was a little slow in parts but otherwise I felt it was very good. Different than any other movie I have seen. Although I foresaw the end early on in the movie, I was still shocked at the way he chose to end things. I really think if you haven't seen this movie, to give it a shot despite the low scores, especially if you're a Will Smith fan.

The movie is based on the same concept that 'pursuit of happiness' was built: hope, faith, love can surpass everything as long as we want it. Although chemistry was working fine in the 'pursuit', in Seven Pounds things have ended up to be a soap opera melodrama; Overemphasis on the drama in order for relief to bring greater results! Not to mention the fact that the scenario is a total mess in terms of timing. Begins somewhere in the middle of nowhere, no links with the incidents that's happening in the movie, to end up with the most ridiculous end I have ever seen! I guess Sony wanted a 'Pursuit of Happiness no2' and despite the fact that acting is amazing, nevertheless the structure of the scenario destroys everything positive in the movie. Expand
