  • Summary: It's hard enough being the nerdy new guy on campus without also being the new girl on campus, who has fallen for the coolest guy on campus, who is totally obsessed with the most beautiful girl on campus, who is "crushing" on the nerdy new guy on campus. That's just the beginning in this contemporary comedy inspired by Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night." (DreamWorks) Expand

Of Amanda Bynes let us say that she is sunny and plucky and somehow finds a way to play her impossible role without clearing her throat more than six or eight times.

This is a perfectly pleasant, entertaining and often witty romp with engaging performances.
  3. So good-natured, and its cast seems to enjoy itself so thoroughly, that the total annihilation of disbelief it requires winds up feeling like a reasonable enough request.

As insistent as its heroine to get its point across, She's the Man gathers up enough energy and likeable goodwill that it almost skirts past some extremely strained passages in which Bynes plays out being a boy.
  5. As an actress, Bynes is wholesome to a fault. She impersonates a teenage boy yet never gives him one good dirty thought.

    It's just dumb.

Bynes appears in practically every scene, and the film seems to have been designed as a showcase for her comedic skills, which she apparently left behind in the trailer.

A wonderful and awesome film! Brings great passion towards the sport, with secrets, relationships, and of course some fun laughs. Enjoyable characters and a well directed movie and ending. Expand

She's the Man gathers up enough energy and likeable goodwill that it almost skirts past some extremely strained passages in which Bynes plays out being a boy as insistent as its heroine to get its point across it fails to exploit the myriad comedic possibilities, settling instead for broad, unconvincing slapstick aimed at 12-year-olds and gags Shakespeare would have rejected as ancient. Love it if I were still a 12 year-old girl - little too cheesy for a 22-year old though.

I was unfortunate enough to walk in on the second half of this movie (during one of the many corny training montages) and then was guilted into staying and watching the rest by my 7 and 9 year old sisters. It didn't take long to catch up on the plot, which plods along with loads of forced sophomoric attempts at comedy. The ending was so cheesy I almost couldn't bear to watch it. Not kidding. It's great for 7th graders who like Lisa Frank. Everyone else steer clear. Expand
