From frame one Showtime displays an ingenuity, cleverness and briskness that never flags.
Chalk up another big-name star vehicle that fails to live up to a wealth of potential.

In such an over saturated genre its near impossible to be original. The whiff of Hollywood schmooze is strong here but theres a heart to it which kept me watching. Ultimately it never truly settles on being a comedy or action film instead wavering between the two with some average editing and screenplay. it is however far better than some of the negative reviews I saw would give it credit for! Light if unadventurous entertainment.

The moment Showtime begins to take itself even remotely seriously, it loses whatever edge it might have had -- and that occurs less than 15 minutes into the proceedings. The best time for Showtime is no time.
No matter how much good will the actors generate, Showtime eventually folds under its own thinness.
Isn't particularly assaultive, but it can still make you feel that you never want to see another car chase, explosion or gunfight again.
A disgrace to the talents of Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy, but it's not enough just to say that. It's also a disgrace to the talents of Rene Russo and whoever drove the coffee truck to the set every day.
A buddy cop movie that pretends to spoof buddy cop movies along with reality TV shows, Showtime is so lazy and artless that … that … it saps my will to come up with a good quip: Witless in itself, it is the source of witlessness in others.
Showtime is living proof that Eddie Murphy's career has just gone downhill. From Harlem Nights to A Thousand Words, he needs to stop making movies. Thank god that veteran actor DeNiro wasn't phased by this movie. Overall, the film was a tedious, mediocre, and uninspiring satire.

Showtime has a few moments that make you chuckle but the whole story seems discombobulated. You would think that a comedy with Murphy and De Niro would **** should have but the storyline was just one that didn't allow the actors to really flourish in a buddy cop type movie. Drop the whole reality show premises and you might have had a decent flick but with it Showtime is just to unbelievable.
