By-the-numbers item, in which five American college students literally get wasted while tripping out on magic mushrooms in rural Ireland, is OK vid fodder with few real scares and not an ounce of originality.
  3. The film's one original moment comes when Bluto has a conversation with a cow. The rest of it, from the distorting lens used randomly to suggest unreality, to the twist ending lifted verbatim from the superior "High Tension," is about as imaginative as a portobello steak with onions.

This is obviously on netflix instant or else no one would even see it but I put it off for so long because i just thought it was going to be straight crap. It's not groundbreaking but I was pleasantly surprised, it's a well made movie. I know I only gave it a 5 but I was going into it thinking it was going to be a 1 or 2 out of 10 type of movie. Despite the some-what silly title, Shrooms is actually well made and scary. It's camera techniques and hallucination trips make the film hazing, yet thrilling. It's suspenseful and has a surprise ending. Definitely worth a watch. Full Review »

It was just so mundane. Imagine what they could have done with a concept based on evil mushies. The possibilities are so far reaching and yet they settled on some crappy slasher crap. The funniest part of the movie is that they pick the creepiest place imaginable to trip out, and decide to go all the way to Ireland to find some mushrooms. I got the movie, because I thought it would be funny to see a bunch of idiots have a nightmarish trip on evil mushrooms, but as it turned out the "shrooms" (a word I never want to use again after hearing it 10,000 times in the movie) had very little to do with most of the action in the movie. It just wasn't realistic enough to its title to be funny, and not suprising enough to be all that enjoyable. Full Review »
