Silent Night, Deadly Night brought the idea to new levels of cold sleaziness.
In nearly every way, Silent Night, Deadly Night is as run-of-the-mill a slasher film as the ’80s produced, enjoyable today primarily for its kitsch value.

A good Christmas Slasher film for the season. Also why did parents make this movie a big deal?

I don't know what planet these "critics" are from but this movie is good old fashioned cheesiness at its finest. Sure the acting is sub par but that's what makes it funny. The gore effects are pretty good considering the time this was made. The Scream Queen herself Linnea Quigley has a memorable death scene. Ignore the critics, check your brain at the door and just watch this movie and enjoy it.

Silent Night, Deadly Night takes off from the notion that Santa Claus is an ax murderer, but it never quite lives up to the delicious perversity of its premise. An idea this shocking has to be earned; instead, director Charles Sellier Jr. ("The Boogens") gives us another casually constructed splatter flick that has more to do with morbid arithmetic (the body count continues!) than movies.
As slasher films go, this is about average. The sets are cheap, with most of the budget seemingly going to the gore effects.
It's fairly safe to predict that Silent Night, Deadly Night will start making "Worst Movies of All Time" lists almost immediately. It has all the prerequisites. A roaringly bad idea. Derivative scriptwriting. Tastelessness. Naked opportunism. A cast full of actors who mug, gesticulate and savor every rotten line. A general "we're only in this for the money" attitude, visible in every sloppy frame. And, to top it off, that most crucial quality: enough conscious or unconscious humor to keep you watching, and insulting, it. [11 March 1986, p.C5]

Got to know about this movie from my brother who told me that this movie was banned only 1 week after release. The reason for ban was just childish. Parents thought this movie will have bad impact on children and will change thinking of Christmas. What type of childish parents they would be. Don't show them the movie, simple. Why ban?
Talking about the movie, it was good and enjoyable. It was like other 80s low budget slashers, which I enjoyed watching. The pace and setting of movie was good. The main lead gave a good performance, not great. This movie was like Halloween and Friday the 13th, just with different concept. I think this movie should be remade just like Halloween (2018), as this concept has alot of potential.
Overall, a good enjoyable slasher movie which you can definitely watch if you love 80s slasher horror.
