Very enjoyable film, despite the sometimes-horrendous dubbing and occasional plot issues. The mixture of the 2D people with the 3D environment was definitely an interesting device. I don't think that everyone will appreciate it, but I think it worked out well, personally. No, it's nothing groundbreaking, but it was a very enjoyable movie to watch. The visuals are probably the strongest part of the movie, but that's very often the case for anime, and with the appealing visuals, it's not a big statement that the plot falls below its level. Highly recommended to at least watch once, if you've got the means. I'll be buying it whenever it's released on Region 1 DVD. (But hey, I'm crazy, I thought Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was a decent first attempt at a theatrical presentation from Square.) Expand

While I love the idea behind the film, and for the most part it does look good, what ruined the film for me was about halfway through where during a police raid, several police/soldiers actually appear to run THROUGH a wall. Not enough attention to detail in my opinion.

A visually arresting piece of work--animating the characters in a more traditional style avoided the pitfall of inexpressiveness frequently found in early CGI animation. Simply the best hybrid for its time. The plot is thin but will appeal to fans of dystopic or environmentally moralistic stories. Background music is VERY interesting and makes the climax of the film one of the most emotionally powerful I have seen in a long time (at least for animated films). Try to see it in the original Korean with subtitles to avoid content cuts and bad dubbing. 10 out of 10. Expand

  1. Sky Blue slows things down, creating a ponderous, almost languid movie-going experience.

Deliberately aiming to put Korean animation on the map, [this] is a tour de force blend of CGI, traditional cell animation, miniatures and live footage.

The result is a soulless piece of product, an ungainly hybrid of sketchy hand-drawn characters in blocky CGI environments, derivative at just about every level.
