A spare, formally ingenious, journalistically acute piece of filmmaking.
Rigorous and riveting.
While it stands as a distinct film in its own right, this film is still very much of a piece with "Shoah," and the subject is presented in the same haunting manner.
The feelings that this simple, deeply intelligent movie produces -- of horror, admiration, hope and grief -- are as hard to name as they are to dispel.
It's a slow, exhaustive and exhausting process that takes a toll on the viewer, despite the intrinsic power of the underlying material.
A spare document featuring one talking head. But what a talking head and what a story!
Has a terrible fascination that glues viewers to the screen. At the same time, audience patience is tested.
