How can you screw up Venom? They made a pure mockery of his character and overall persona -- not to mention Spider-Man himself. There is nothing wrong with going through an emotional time, but the overall presentation of Peter's gradual change is cheesy and disturbing.

To be honest, I didn't what was so bad about this movie! I've heard complaints about Venom, too many villains, etc. Well, whatever! I don't care for any of that! As long as I'm entertained, that's all that matters for me!

"Spider man 3" is very impressive and astounding; Sam Raimi manages to give the obvious fresh joy and humor from the previous sequels and even throws in more villains. The Result? Perfect.

I thought this movie was the best in the series. I loved every Spider Man movie and this one was my fave. I don't understand why everyone is downing it so much. I was just like the other Spider Man's. This movie had great action, great story, and great dialogue, i loved everything about this movie. It was funny but also serious. This movie pulled off everything. Easy 10.

Not as good as #2, more action, but just seemed that it was all forced to finish up the trilogy. Storyline good, but for the first time felt a few reaches to put things in order. Much scarier that previous movies. Would NOT take my youngest to see this one. Venom and his screams would give him nightmares. Still the best, by far, superhero movies ever. This one is the 2nd best of the three. If I were to think about it a few more days, I may even move it up a bit more. Expand

Definitely the weakest of the three (what is it with Marvel #3's? X-Men 3 reaked as well). The audience I was with seemed bored throughout and laughed only once. And that was the Jonah Jameson pill scene. Not a good sign. I say let's leave it alone at 3 and NOT suit up for any more.

This film is a masterpiece. Just ask the critics and the IMDB fans. This division is what creates nothing short of brilliance. If you want, you can disagree with it. But no one can argue that this movie certainly is entertaining, and that it has a heart to it and is a gripping tale of bitter humanity.

The goo also sticks to Peter, but scale back on your expectations for a dark side. If you want to see a truly malevolent Maguire grab the DVD of The Good German in which he forces Cate Blanchett into rough anal sex and then punches her out. The worst the goo does to Peter is turn him into a finger-snapping hipster recalling the Buddy Love character in The Nutty Professor (both the Jerry Lewis and Eddie Murphy versions). But Raimi knows we'll never buy Peter as a dick. So he uses the scene for comic effect -- babes laugh at his cool act -- and in the process liberates Maguire from the goody-goody goo that Peter wears like a second skin. The worst thing Peter does is use Gwen to make MJ jealous. And in a typical Raimi touch, the director finds time to show Gwen apologize to MJ for letting herself be a pawn in a man's game. Spider-Man 3 is full of Raimi nuances. But the attack dogs are out in force. They see the film's budget (a reported $250 million) and the huge box-office take of the first two installments ($1.6 billion) as evidence that the filmmakers are in it for the money. Now there's a shock. Internet wags point out that Raimi, from a conservative Michigan family of Polish Jews, contributed $900 to Dubya's reelection campaign in 2004. What's next? Did Raimi phone in votes for Sanjaya? The third chapter in the Spidey saga (a fourth is in the planning stages) is uneven, ungainly and frayed at the edges but there's lively mischief in it still. My guess is that when the summer blockbuster season finishes pummeling us with formula, Spider-Man 3 is going to look like one of the few that was touched by human hands. Expand

i really liked this movie alot. i was hesitant at first when all my mates were saying it was awful but i was happy with what i saw. the action scenes were great, the strong work around all the characters was where the true brilliance in the film was. i think so many people thought less of it because they were expecting this uber gritty and dark film, but thats just not how the spiderman films have ever worked. sure it was a little cheesy but i loved every secong of it Expand

Amazing looking scenes, visual effects are first class and funny. However, there was too much going on. And, what was the story-line again? Fight his best friend; Harry Osborn? Nope, that only happened for 5 minutes... Get rid of the Black Suit? No, that only happened for about an hour... Fight Venom? Still no; that was for around 15 minutes... (Next time we should see more of the uber villain) And what in tarnation did Maguire do to his hair half way through? Back to basics with the next one (if there will be) please. Expand

I agree with what someone of this board said... this kind of movie should be done for he broad masses or for the fan base... sadly, i feel it doesn't satisfy any of them. As a movielover, i dont need corny and cheesy dialogues, or for the fx to overlap the stoyrline, or predictable plots (i really hate that the Sandman was the "killer" of Ben), or an overthrown of supervillains one after the another, I appreciate and I'm thankful (as a movielover) for the popcorn kind of movie -as it allows me (is it all the profits come from the tickets or also from the snacks for a movie that lasts over two hours)-, i appreciate the sometimes well executed comedy (honestly, the scene of the dancin' is, as a lack of a better word, amusing), and some action. As a fan, I hated (as much as I like Haden and Grace) the casting for the villains... why don't you make a movie about spidey and venom, the brock's approach to aunt may and the battle in the beach? Venom is really really deep and funny and cinic (please, can anyone hire Todd Mc Farlane as a writer for the next film?)why don't you make a movie about the Harry's obsesion to tell the world who's Spidey, introducing Liz, Raxton and even, Norman jr.? the hatred, the complexity... Is it me or in the movie left a piece of the alien symbiote in Connor's lab? Expand

This is the worst Spider-Man movie yet, the stupid story and TERRIBLE plot twist with Sandman was RETARDED!!!! and they completely shafted Venom, even though it's so flawed I still got enjoyment out of this, this will sharply divide fans.

Compared to the other Spider Man movies, this is bad. The history isn't nice as the first movie's and it's way less enjoyable. The enemy: Venom, is the nicest thing of the movie...probably one of the only things nice in it.

i am one of the biggest spidey fans...saw the premier show on 2 may ... but the movie was not upto my expectations... a lot of money has been spent on special effects(there r bout 7 to 8 fights as there are 3 villans) but its all hooj paoch.. story line is not as good as spidey 1 and 2... ending has been extended.. i think it could have been made much better if concentration was on only main characters like black spidey and sandman... toby could be seen without his spidey mask in action and hary osborn character is cool as green goblin!! This was not a good movie. Shame on you Sam Raimi. You should change your name to Shlong Raimi, because that's how bad this movie was. Please don't cry about it. I got enough of that out of every single scene in the movie. Way to mess up a trilogy. Next time someone wants to pay you to direct a movie, please have them give my balls a call, because they could make a better movie.

Spiderman, my good sirs, is a fighter, not a sissy weiner that spends most of the movie crying. I wanted to see him fight. I fought more than he did; I fought boredom. Once upon a time, as a kid, I had dreams that Spiderman could be turned into a great trilogy. My dreams were shattered tonight. Mr. Raimi, I hope you are happy, because you have killed the dreams of little Wayland. For your sake, I hope your next project is to invent a time machine, go back in time, and save little Wayland. Not as good as the first 2 but still is worth seeing. Tries to mix too many sub-plots, too many characters, and in the end gives solutions that either ar in ahurry or not so convincing. But the humorous stuff are good (even McGuire behaving as jerk makes u laugh but THAT s the intention, people!), the drama that ALWAYS was there (check the previous Spideys) is here too and action in nevetheless awesome. I expected MORE of course. but to call this a bad movie is WAY out of line... Expand

, I'm a HUGE fan of Spiderman...Liked the first movie, LOVED the second flick and was dying to see the third one. And since I live in Korea, I was able to see the movie tonight (SM3 opened in Asia 3 days before it opens in North America). I'm sad to say, I was let down by the third film. The biggest issue by far is the fact that there are FAR too many story lines going on at once. The movie feels very bogged down and not nearly enough time is given for proper character development. In this movie, there is Spiderman, Mary Jane, Gwen Stacey, "New" Goblin Venom and Sandman. Each character is given the bare amount of time for development. I'm assuming that since most of the cast is non-committal to returning for a fourth movie, the filmmakers decided to throw as many stories into this movie in case it was the end. It really takes away from the movie as a whole. The other big issue I have is the very forced sense of humor the movie tries to take. From a very lame riff on John Travolta's walk from "Saturday night fever" to watching Peter Parker dance to jazz music, a lot of the humor feels like it's was written for a SNL sketch. There is a very poor ending involving Spiderman and Sandman that defies logic. I sincerely hope this is NOT the last Spiderman film, because if it is, it's certainly not the best way for the series to end. None of the magic and originality of the second film are here. I hope that a decision is made to do a fourth film and I hope if a fourth film is made, the filmmakers decide to go back to what made the second film so special. ** out of ***** Expand

I'm very disappointed, but at least I know why: too many villains (1 that finally isn't, he's just misunderstood.........), too many plot lines (useless was to involve Sandman in uncle Ben's death), not enough Venom, too much attempted comedy. What saves this movie is the special effects (10/10 for Sandman) but that's not enough seing how good the 2nd Spidey was....

Good story and good action but all to crammed in to a mess. All that could of been fixed, if they just took the time in the story telling and made two movies out of this one. This would of aload for more action and story instead of a mess. What was done with venom was harable! They should of had a whole movie devoted to that badie. Compared to predecessors, Spidey three is a little choppy, but that doesn't prevent it from being entertaining. the "bad" peter is an absolute blast to watch, from his more outspoken behavioral qualities to his ferocious spidey fighting. Sandman's an awesome villain, and the arc with the three friends was wrapped up nicely.

As a big Sam Rami fan I cant believe what a big pile of manure Spiderman 3 is.I can understand going away from the books on the origin fo the symbiont suit, explaining the secret wars to people theat don't read comic books would be pretty tough.I could even understand putting the sandman in the film.I might even have been ae to accept harry becoming goblin Jr. but when he canged the single greatest spiderman villain from a middle aged reporter to a whiney little Emo kid Venom also always referred to itself as us and we thats where he really lost me. In fact the only redeeming thing in the movie is Bruce Campbell playing the French Maitre'De.Sam couldn't have made this movie any worse if he tried which makes me believe that idiotic studio executives had more to do with making this huge pile of elephant dung than Sam Rami did. Whining, complaining, and soap opera cliches fill up a movie with two good fight scenes. Compared to the comics, my favorite character, Venom, is castrated. Something happens with some guy that turns into sand, and the Green Goblin bores everyone to death. All that in over two hours. I got this movie for free, and I regret it dearly.

Spider-man 3 was the #1 movie i wanted to see of 2007. I saw it on 6 May. I have to say it is not as good as the first two. This movie dragged a lot, which reminded my of the old days of star wars ep. 2 and pearl harbor. the acting kinda went down a bit. I have no idea why people are going off for the scene where Peter is dancing in the street. that was funny. Overall, this movie is not a ripoff. It's just not the best of the spidey trilogy. Loaded with illogical and unlikely events, it feels like an excuse for special effects and to tie loose ends. That said, the special effects are good. So if you want to partly disengage your brain, this movie is satisfactory.

Cramming over twenty years of comic history into a single hour of a movie won't help with storyline or plot, but it'll definitely help sales. One of the main problems of the movie is that the storyline rushes and moves too fast. Scenes skip around to the point where you have to be paying close attention to what's going on, or you'll miss important plot points. Having said that, I'll talk about individual processes. Topher Grace's performance of Venom is less-than-spectacular. Venom is a character who's the pure essence of evil. He originally had a distorted, screech-like voice, but now it's only slightly deepened by Grace's. The abundance of bad lines that Grace has don't help his performance, either. "I like being bad. It makes me happy." That was one of the lines that made the movie feel like a big, unimportant joke. I did like the special effects of the Sandman and Thomas Hayden Church's performance. The parts of Venom could've been cut out to save for another movie and this would've been great. Weak subplots and overly-fast pacing put the third film as bad as Fantastic 4 : Rise of the Silver Surfer. Expand

I enjoyed this film and the review ive given it is possibly skewed having just witnessed "The Condemned" which enters the top 10 worst films of all time. Spider-man takes a different approach from the first 2 films coming to blows with friends and loved ones from the start. His character is developing and more so in this film than the previous 2. I'm not a fan of the comics, so im not sure about the history etc and can understand some fans anger, however purely as someone new to the film/series, i enjoyed it overall. I enjoyed seeing something a bit different. What irritated me was the lack of explanation, what on earth was that evil black thing? SPOLIER - When Harry pinned Mary Jane up against the wall then she dumped Peter, what was actually said there? The film however does provide some answers. Combine a decent script with a mega budget, plenty of action and a good cast and you're set. A good film to watch on a Saturday night with the family or a few mates...or the girlfriend. Personally i watched it alone and that was fine too! Expand

Abysmal.Overly-long, terrible acting all-round (with the possible exception of Hayden-Church), Parker dancing, giving kirsten dunst TWO songs, awful dialogue, messy fight-scenes and worst of all, a shot of spiderman posing in front of the American flag. Don't get me wrong I've got nothing against America or patriotism, but that made me feel nauseous. Utterly rubbish.

Spider-man 3 is very disappointing. Raimi did so well with the first two. But look at this crap, it deserves no awards. It has one really good scene, which I will not identify, but every other scene was either off, cheesy, bizarre, over the top, weak, or just simply bad or stupid.

Words cannot adequately describe how bad this movie is. Flat acting performances, cringe-inducing and often pointless dialogue, ridiculous action scenes, an plot that's both overstuffed and riddled with holes, and don't get me started on the Spiderman 'dance' scenes. I'm also still trying to figure out who was behind a couple of the casting decisions (Topher Grace as Eddie Brock? Really guys?) and the handling of the Peter Parker/MJ 'relationship' (if that's what you can call what went on in this movie). Avoid at all costs. Expand

Insensible, hollow, soulless crap, even moreso if compared to the previous chapter. Nothing about it works like it should. There are plot illogicalities that will make absolutely anyone ask themselves, "Huh?" For starters, why did Parker think it was a good idea to make out with that new girl in front of everyone, then follow up with a planned proposal to his official girlfriend? Was he oblivious that she just might be there watching the whole time? Then, when the girl shows up out of nowhere and talks about how she kissed Spider-Man, it never seems to register in him that something's not right then. So then, after it's proven that Parker's a douche, we immediately are given a sad scene with Parker crying as we learn Sandman was his uncle's killer. Uh, okay, I thought the movie wanted me to feel resentment for Parker's overt arrogance for a second there, but this sad music wants me to feel sympathetic for something else? Also, I know a romantic subplot is necessary, and I expected it completely, but most of this movie was a soap opera, one for which I wasn't rooting for the main angst figure that is Parker. Parker does stupid, insensitive things the entire film. When he's not making us hate him by hurting everyone's emotions (and, in Harry's case, detonating a grenade next to his face), he's trying to do it by being a whiny little bitch who doesn't seem to understand why any of it's happening. The soap opera factor reaches critical mass, though, when Harry tells Parker he's "the other guy" that MJ is after, right after MJ tells him in tears that it's over while he pulls out his engagement ring, also in tears. I understand some amount of drama is to be expected in this movie, but we're so relentlessly bombarded with histrionic drivel and sad piano music it's impossible not to get sick of it long before it's over. I mean, for Christ's sake, we get an -AMNESIA- plot device, one that's become a parody for TV dramas in itself. Further, one of my main reasons for going into the theater was to see Venom kick some ass. Unfortunately, while the romantic subplot was unfolding, and something which I guess is supposed to resemble comic relief in the infamous "emo-Parker" sequences, I spent the first two-thirds of the movie asking myself, "Where the Hell is Venom?" When he finally got on, we get nothing at all worth watching. Also, referring back to the grenade exploding a few inches by Harry's face, if anyone didn't notice, that same grenade that managed to cause just a burn completely obliterated Venom. Nothing else really comes together to redeem it. The dialogue is unbelievably stupid and trite, the special effects are overproduced to oblivion and silliness, and the best parts involved the news station comedy bits. Don't even get me started on the emo-Parker comic relief scene, which could not possibly have been more over-the-top inappropriate. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be laughing, or if it was some kind of message about Parker still being a spiteful jerk. I saw no good reason to feel bad for him while he cold-heartedly caused every event of his own miserable luck. Crushingly disappointing after the ridiculously awesome previous entry. Just abysmal. The action sequences in this film are pretty impressive, and the narrative works well too. But there are some moments that are just cringe-worthy. When a film actually includes the line 'he seems to have appeared from no where, just when all hope seemed lost', that's when it makes you want to gag. Plus watching a talented actor like Toby McGuire being wasted on trying to portray a 'badass' Spidey is just embarrassing. What makes this point worse is that when Harry (another central character) goes through his evil phase as the new Goblin, it's a lot more convincing and interesting. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I didn;t enjoy the film, it just took the whole 'cheesey' factor way too far. Expand

The worst sequel I've ever seen to a good movie. What was Raimi on when he made this piece of crap?! Its like all the actors forgot how to act, all the writers forgot how to write! This travesty reduces the glory of Spider-Man, one of the greatest superheroes of all time, to a streaming pile of dog droppings. When you see Tobey, fresh from his emo stupor sway dancing through the crowds midway through the picture, that should be a good indication to leave the theater, if you haven't done so already. Expand

Spider Man could be a good teaching material for children, especially the Episode One. Spider Man’s uncle just told him that “With great power comes great responsibility.” It means a lot to children and also adults. Almost every child has the dream to be the super man, but they do not know how to use the power, neither do adults. Sometimes we just misunderstand the power or the super power, we wish we could have it but we do not know how to use it. We wish we could have the magic ring and when we need help, the spirit in the ring would solve everything for us. When I was a little child, I wish I could have the Aladdin’s lamp and I could call the spirit in the lamp to do homework for me. The first wish would be “Help me to do my homework.” The second wish would be “Help me to do my homework.” And the third wish would be “Give me another three wishes.” It is just like the one who has the ability to make himself omnipotent makes him omnipotent. To us, the super power is the thing could make our life better and if we have the power the first thing we want to do might not be protecting the earth or bring the peace to this world, but getting as many our favorite things as possible immediately. Even if we have the power, how could we make this world stay peaceful forever? Only when everyone or at least every head of this world knows “With great power comes great responsibility.” then we would have a better place in this planet. Maybe Mr. Bush is the example for missing this course. Expand

Unfortunately, something just went completely wrong with this movie - despite the first two being really well made. There's not nearly enough action for the movie it is (or could've been) and most of it is interrupted by dreary and tiresome sappy sequences between characters. And the entire sequence before, after and including the jazz bar scene is both too long and possibly one of the most unnecessary and cheesy pieces of cinema I've seen in a few years. I was [emphasis on the word was] a huge fan of this series, I'm not a comic book freak and I just thought this movie completely missed the plot. And all respect for Stan Lee in his original writing, but what his he doing with a pointless speaking role, give the cameo but make it interesting and enjoyable. Any action sequences and Spiderman-isms there are in this movie is what's made it a 2/10 rather than less. Disappointing. Expand

Spider-Man 3 is the Lawrence Of Arabia of the superhero movies world. It is epic, sprawling, magnificent, meaningful, beautiful. Anyone who doesn't enjoy this movie must be a pretty spoilt brat or a cynical old misery. For near on three hours it envelops you in its world and makes you CARE about the characters. How's that for a special effects laden blockbuster, a movie with characters that matter? The comedy works, the emotion works, the action works. Everything Raimi tries comes off. The set pieces are particularly astounding, ranging from an out of control crane to Spidey's numerous battles with the meaty villains on show. Like others, I think this is by far the best of the three (though I loved the first two as well). It's a modern-day classic, an enrapturing fantasy that exhibits all that's best in modern movie making. An experience not to be missed. Expand

Where do I begin? This movie was possibly one of the worst sequels to a marvel movie. It was horrible. If you want to watch a love story for 2 hours of the movie, go see it. This movie wasn't Spider-man, it was "The Notebook" + "Fantastic 4". I am so furious on how horribly done this movie was. I was looking so forward to Venom, and they couldn't even do his character right. He's the same size as Spider-man if not smaller. And shoots the webs from the top of his hand. A massive disappointment. It's too long. It's too complicated. It's too corny. Half the time it doesn't even take its self seriously, and the acting (for the most part) was LAME. It's like everyone thought they were making a comic book on film instead of a deep, mature film. That said, the movie did have amazing special effects and a few great scenes. Though, I wish I had never seen this poorly done sequel, especially at a midnight release party. I'm afraid to go back and watch the near masterpiece Spider-Man 2 was, now knowing what lies in Spideys' future. Do your self a favor and rent this one on DVD. Honestly TMNT was better, if you can imagine. This film is horrifying. The dialogue is trite, the acting wooden, the "plot" splintered, and boring. Even with 3 villians there isn't enough action. I laughed at the tender moments and cried at funny ones. I feel like I get Sam Raimi, but his work just doesn't play when spun out into a Summer Blockbuster. It's not as bad a some make it out to be. There's nowhere as much character development as in 1 and 2. Why should there be? You've seen these characters for 5 hours on film already, why do you need that much more? There's a lot more action, and as a side-effect, too much CGI. I think this film has become a victim of too much hype, and too much footage already released in trailers and "sneak peeks". Venom looked AWESOME. Just wish he had more than just 30 mins or so. It's better than 2, not a good as 1. It's a film that you'll like more and more, the more you see it. There's too many smaller nuances that you miss in one viewing with all the action. The biggest flaw was not enough JK Simmons. He always steals the movie, and he just isn't in this one enough. Expand

Spider-Man 3 should have been incredible. It should have been an epic wrap up to, what would have been, a great trilogy. However, it falls into the same pitfalls as "X3: The Last Stand." There are too many characters that are poorly developed and the performances, for the most part, were sub-par. The voice acting for Venom was awful and Sandman just was not that interesting of a villan. The showdown between Spider-Man and Harry was underwhelming and the action was just really corny. The dialogue left alot to be desired, particularly the chessey lines used by Peter Parker when he turns to the darkside. It was pure camp and a true testament to style over substance. No moment particularly thrilled me and the ending was an enourmous cop-out. Even if you are a die-hard fan of the serious, avoid this film. Just pretend it doesn't exist and go believe that some day there will be a competant director to take on Spider-Man; one who gives us the truly epic conclusion that we all wanted in this one. Expand

Powerfully gripping, and touching film, and Harry Osborn was actually good in this film. Too bad the Eddie Brock character seemed inconsistent, and the plot seemed rushed. Haydn Church was great in the bit role as the down on his luck, the good-hearted but criminally Sandman, and this film was awesome. This just wasn't good. It seemed like Raimi took numerous short films centered around Spiderman and decided to mash them together. Because he tried to squeeze everything into one movie, Raimi wasn't able to focus enough on a coherent story or any character development. There wasn't even enough room for the good old web slinging through the streets of New York. For such a long movie, nothing was accomplished. Expand

Mediocre and not enough payoff for sitting through the boring stuff.

Film students all over earth, go see this film to learn how to mess up an otherwise good film, ten minutes before it all ends. sam raimi, who seems to have absoulte control of everything somehow looses focus towards the end, making all the vilians kind of apologise to spidey and spidey forgiving and crying while doing so...who is going to apologise to us? for believing this movie and paying the ticket price? how are we suppose to leave the theater wanting to be a superhero and humming the tune when at the end, they make spidey seem like a girly man? they didnt even have a hardcore spidey tune when the credits started to roll at the end...oh what a crime this is!...it started so well...but ended in a manner even a superhero cant save. A sense of strain envelops the proceedings this time around. One can feel the effort required to suit up one more time, come up with fresh variations on a winning formula and inject urgency into a format that basically needs to be repeated and, due to audience expectations, can't be toyed with or deepened very much.

Overly long and complicated, it's packed with crowd-pleasing moments and satisfactorily wraps up the trilogy - without quite capturing the magic of the first two installments.
