  • Summary: A vicious hate crime at an elite New England college thrust the new dean of students into the investigation. When charged with maintaining order on campus, she is forced to examine her own feelings about race. Based on the critically acclaimed play, Spinning into Butter is a compelling movie that examines the emotional fallout of prejudice within the cloistered walls of academia. Though the movie trails off unsatisfyingly, it raises intriguing and candid, if unanswerable, questions about race relations and political correctness.

In style and content, Sarah Jessica Parker starrer is the kind of earnest, talky, modestly scaled social-issue pic that seems predestined for the smallscreen.
  3. I don't mind a movie where people spend a lot of time jawboning, but what they say had better be interesting. In Spinning into Butter we are spoon-fed the deep dark revelation that racism can exist as virulently in liberal environs as in reactionary ones. Alert the media.

A poorly structured film, trite writing, the acting is overzealous and the story is overstated. The film is so busy trying to be significant and important it neglects to entertain. Expand
