One of the 10 worst movies of 2003. What a hellish nightmare from start to finish! Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts reunite for the 1st time since "Pope Of Greenwich Village" and they're awful here. Wrong film for a reunion. Ugh.

I thought it was such a great film, reminded me of the movie Requiem for a Dream. I've never tried Meth or Speed so I wouldn't know what it's like but I know a lot of people who have tried it. Seeing movies like Spun or Requiem for a Dream makes you realize that you don't want to turn out like that if you use the drug. It's depressing because it's actually like that in real life. Great directing and perfect selection of actors to play their roles. Expand

This is indeed a masterpiece of visually stunning drug-cinema, shocking at the beginning, heartbreaking and beautiful in the end. Don't believe the bad reviews, this is the brilliant debut film from Jonas Ackerlund (who directed Smack My Bitch Up, Try Try Try,...) Intruiging and shocking in every way, this film about speedjunks messing up their lives will move you really towards the end, especially when you hear the line: "everything is gonna be great, I'm so excited!" says one of the maincharacters while her life is copletely messed up. NaÏve and melancholic. The magnificent soundtrack of Billy Corgan makes it complete... Go watch it and judge for yourself, I'm not the only one who thinks this movie is highly underestimated! Expand

Superb druggy slice of life. Perfect mix of style and content. All the cast are on top form, and Rourke is effortlessly good as The Cook.

I hope your boys get sued for copyright infringement, William. The movie is a horrendous piece of crap. Even Tarantino ripoffs like "Go" can have some integrity.

Just like a movie about speed should be, fun, fast and disconnected, this characters are much more real than some people would like to believe.

Kind of boring. Some of the camera work is EXACTLY from Requiem for a Dream.

I don't care - I liked this one. It's like a curiosity. And, so far from the formulaic tired crap that's out there usually. Worth a view at least.

The traumatized critic must struggle to avoid capital letters in urging patrons to steer clear of the colorfully cast but unbearable Spun.
  2. As the cowboy-hatted wild man who cooks up speed in his motel-room lab, Rourke, who looks at home in his tattoos, is mesmerizingly grungy. He strikes a rare note of authenticity in this otherwise phony fandango.
  3. Both a madcap comedy and a cautionary tale about the dangers of drug abuse. But it's not funny or smart enough to work as either one, let alone to strike a balance.
