Yeah, great. Not. The plot: Saving our parents! A bit overused isn't it? Sheesh.

Unpredictable, joyful, and crazy. Robert Roderiquez's new family kid film "Spy Kids" can be described with these 3 words.

Harmless fluff that occasionally entertains the grownups. Some of the ideas feel like they were written under the influence of drugs, though.

It's a good movie, decent effects, likeable characters, and the sequel is pretty good to. It's to bad they released 3-D and the horrible spin-off Shark boy and Lava Girl.

I really liked spy kids. When I first got it, me and my brothers and sisters could not stop watching it. I still like like it now. I think that this would be a movie that a lot of people should want to get.

All the criticisms here, all of them, seem to be the criticisms of a bunch of humourless, er, somethings. "Saving our parents! A bit overused isn't it? Sheesh." Oh, lighten up for crying out loud. Michael C: You didn't like the Thumb-Thumbs? Oh, well. There you go. I did. Does that make them good? Or bad? Answer: neither, since neither of us are that bloody important. Come on, smile. Smile! You can do it, smile! Smile, damn you! Seriously, even if some elements are an acquired taste, (and bear in mind it's a KID'S film, yeah?) the bottom line is this: life's too short not to enjoy Spy Kids. Expand

Great fun for the whole family and I love the way it relates so well to the family audience. It simultaneuosly brings to life the kinds of things lurking in the overactive imaginations while poking fun at the way kids are drawn into mind rotting escapism such as Floop's TV show. All the while being a fun filled adventure and as far as spy films go, 007 had better quit while he's ahead, because this more betetr than any Bond film to come out in the last 20 years. The only criticism I could give the film is the really bad special effects and lack of genuine heart that we see in other family films like Toy Story 2 and Shrek and the characters are too casual to be in any way lovable. Otherwise, this is well worth your time. Rent it out and watch it with your kids, you won't regret it. Expand

This movie is so cool I can't stop watching it. My favorite part of the movie is when the boy and the girl runs of so they can free there mom and dad from floop. My next favorite part is when the girl is dresed up in the tumb-tumb. My last favorite part of the movie is when the lady that works for floop gets her hiar burnt off.

I was expecting a lot from Spy Kids. From the trailer it looked like cool and smart fun. Well, I got something completely different from what I expected. The film was cool with its gadgets and gizmos, neat one-liners and brilliant kid?s action sequences (which are not developed enough or long enough), but in the long run, this film was a disappointment. The plot was stupid beyond belief. I didn?t laugh that much. The film has high potential, is endlessly imaginative and brings up some cool creations, but I found the story laughable and the whole brother story just tired. The film was predictable and as soon as we get to Floop?s castle thing, the stupidity takes over. Those thumbs are just plain lame and although the flawless visuals are good to look at and the art direction is stunning, the walking-see-sensing thumb-people and colourful Floop TV companions are just stupid. The movie would?ve been much better if they had come up with something just as creative but not as laughable. The acting was pretty. The direction was pretty impressive and the visuals excel the most. The film dreams up excellent ideas and is creative, but the story and script are really quite low-key. With the sequel, get rid of those dumb-ass thumbs and companions, come up with a better story, cut the corn and get to the good stuff. Expand

I thought it was an AWESOME movie! I loved every minute of it, and i'm a teen (i'm 15) so that should tell you something! I thought that Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara, Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino did some majorly great acting! by the way, I JUST LOVE ANTONIO BANDERAS AND CARLA GUGINO! They're my favorite actors. So, overall I thought the movie deserved a well earned 10!!

A great, hip kids movie that adults will love too. Surprisingly enough, the way this year is going, this might be one of the year's 30 best. It doesn't quite go into the 10 best or even the 20 best, but if I ever made a thirty best (which I don't) it might just be on there!

The kids seem to love it, but adults may find it a bit trite. Chuckles galore, however.

The best live-action kids movie done in at least a decade. It is a well-crafted kid's movie. Even though some of the jokes may not be funny to an adult, you can still respect its craft as a kid's movie for putting them there. As an adult, don't watch it expecting realism or likely situations. Its best just to admire how well this movie is made with children in mind. It knows what kids like, and doesn't care if adults might find those things silly or corny. Every kid needs a movie like this in their childhood. I've heard many kids say that it is their favorite movie. I work in a theater, and its heartbreaking to see 6 year olds being dragged into Scary Movie 2 while begging to see Spy Kids: Special Edition. This is a movie that kids will be remembering when they are older, like my generation still talks about The Goonies. The special edition is good too, though it only adds one scene, its a clever one. They are in a cave of sleeping sharks, and Juni has to pee badly, but if he does, it will change the chemical levels in the water and wake up the sharks. It was always intended to be in the movie, but the original budget didn't allow for it. It was filmed, but special effects for that scene could only be afforded after the movie performed well in theaters. So it isn?t just a money-making scheme, its the movie as it was intended to be originally. Expand

Rodriguez has made a movie for kids, and the most and least that can be said about it is that parents, while hardly being catered to, will experience profound relief that the movie knows how to entertain and does so.
  2. As a piece of almost dadaist filmmaking, Spy Kids is great fun with its continual spirit of invention.
  3. Energetic and slickly done, but also somewhat soulless.
