  1. Surprise after surprise follows in this increasingly dark comedy, which is loaded with sharp observations and exceptionally complex characterizations.
  2. A confusing blend of noir mystery and screwball comedy, Testosterone never manages to reconcile its conflicting tones and ultimately lacks the wit necessary to fuel its outlandish plotting.
  3. Starts quirky, grows steadily darker, doesn't build much excitement.
  4. Veering between black comedy and intense psychological drama, David Moreton's bizarre thriller never manages to get its bearings.

Dangerously low on laughs and sex, not to mention believability.

Never quite clicks, primarily because the central male characters are badly miscast.

Despite the movie’s lack of anything resembling a narrative center, Testosterone isn't an entire waste of film stock – Sutcliffe, Sabato Jr., and especially the great Braga all act up a storm.

While butching up their hero, Moreton and cowriter Dennis Hensley left out one key ingredient: charisma -- for all his macho swagger, the guy's unbearable.

The cutesy opening of writer-director David Moreton's Testosterone (co-written with Dennis Hensley) turns out to be a crippling miscalculation.

It might as well be retitled "Waiting For Antonio," since Sabato's appearances bookend miles of convoluted nonsense. For the prurient, that's probably too much to endure.

This obsessive love story about a guy seeking closure after being dumped by his Latino boyfriend awkwardly juggles screwball and noir elements with macabre black comedy in a mix that calls for a far lighter, more stylish touch than the obvious one at work here.

All the male pulchritude can't make up for a muddled script.
  15. Makes no psychological sense. Even within the convoluted realm of film noir, the development of the relationships defies any logic.

The kind of movie that produces a particular series of questions: How the heck did this get made? Who needed a tax shelter? Who had money to burn?

Another gay movie that luxuriates in emotional implausibility.

I can honestly think of no reason why anyone would want to see Testosterone apart from the rumor that the film contains a full-frontal shot of Antonio Sabato Jr. naked.

Although beautifully filmed, the script of Testosterone is absolutely horrible. Argentina is portrayed as a decadent "European" country (forget that it is in Latin America) crossed with the most pathetic Latin Lover (and violent murderer) stereotypes. The main character plays the Ugly American abroad to the utmost and seems to have a head-splitting caffeine migraine throughout the entire movie. It is painful to watch this film, which is a shame, given all the attractive male (and female) actors and scenes of hot gay sex. Sonia Braga, an actress I adore, plays a terribly written and poorly acted matriarch. See at your own risk. Do not waste your money on the DVD. Full Review »
